India: 45% rise in number of TB cases in Rajasthan

Jaipur, Jun 3 (PTI) Rajasthan has seen a 45 per cent increase in the number of tuberculosis (TB) cases in the last one year after the Centre made it a notifiable disease, according to government data.

A total of 1,59,762 cases were notified last year as compared to 1,10,044 in 2017, as per the government's official portal monitoring the disease.

Medical experts said the marked rise in number of TB cases does not mean the actual figures have changed as many cases went unreported earlier.

India: Woman raped in Pali district, four accused arrested

Jaipur, Jun 3 (PTI) A 30-year-old married woman was allegedly raped by five men in Rajasthan's Pali district and the video of the crime uploaded on social media, police said Monday.

Four of the five accused were arrested on Monday, a day after the woman lodged a complaint alleging that the five had raped her on May 26 when she was on way to a temple with a friend. The accused also made a video of the crime.

Indian AF aircraft with 13 people on board goes missing

New Delhi, Jun 3 (PTI) An AN-32 transport aircraft of the Indian Air Force with 13 people on board lost contact with ground agencies around 35 minutes after it took off from Jorhat in Assam on Monday, official sources said.

The aircraft got airborne at around 12:25 PM and lost all contacts with ground staff at around 1 PM, they said.

A total of eight crew and five passengers were on board the aircraft, the sources said.

The Indian Air Force has deployed all available resources to locate the aircraft, said the sources.

India: Dalit man forcibly drowned: forensic experts to court

Kottayam(Ker), June 3 (PTI) A Dalit Christian, who died last year in a suspected case of honour killing, was forcibly drowned in a stream in Kollam district, forensic experts informed a court here Monday.

This was not a case of accidental death or a suicide, but a case of homicidal drowning, forensic experts of the Kottayam Government Medical College hospital who performed the postmortem of P Kevin Joseph told the District Additional Sessions Court here.

Indian Rajya Sabha (Upper House) session from June 20 to July 26

New Delhi, Jun 3 (PTI) The Rajya Sabha will meet from June 20 to July 26 for the upcoming session of Parliament, the Upper House secretariat said Monday.

"The President has summoned the Rajya Sabha to meet on June 20, 2019 for the upcoming Session of Parliament. Subject to exigencies of business, the session is scheduled to conclude on Friday, July 26, 2019," Rajya Sabha Secretary General Desh Deepak Verma said in a statement.

India: Four injured as BJP, TMC supporters clash in West Bengal

Hooghly (WB), Jun 3 (PTI) Tension prevailed Monday at Goghat in Hooghly district, where four persons were injured following a clash between supporters of the BJP and the ruling Trinamool Congress, police said.

Trouble began when the TMC supporters were felling trees, which the BJP workers objected to, resulting in a scuffle, they said.

India: Man arrested for killing mother, raping daughter

Jajpur (Odisha), Jun 3 (PTI) The Odisha Police has arrested a man who fled from the state after raping a minor girl and killing her mother in Jajpur district last month, police said Monday.

The accused, identified as Bijaya Behera (22), a resident of local Kumari village under the jurisdiction of Dharmasala police station area in Jajpur district, was nabbed by police team in Kerala on Sunday night, said Saroj Kumar Sahoo, inspector-in-charge of Dharmasala police station.

Azamgarh, Jun 3 (PTI) The Samajwadi Party will fight for social justice together with the Bahujan Samaj Party, said SP chief Akhilesh Yadav Monday, hours after BSP supremo Mayawati expressed dissatisfaction over the poll performance of the alliance between the two parties.

"We and Bahujan Samaj Party will fight for social justice together," said Yadav, addressing a public meeting here during his first visit to the constituency after declaration of the Lok Sabha poll results.

India: A month after Fani, 1.64 lakh families still in darkness

Bhubaneswar, Jun 3 (PTI) More than five lakh people of 1.64 lakh households in Odisha's coastal districts continue to struggle with hot and humid weather conditions due to lack of power restoration though one month has passed since the cyclone Fani made landfall near Puri on May 3.

The worst affected was Puri district where only 1,51,889 out of 2,91,171 affected electricity consumers (52 per cent) have got back power so far, an official said adding, Fani had completely damaged power infrastructure in the district.

India: Mahila Cong worker accuses BJP of extortion

Agartala, Jun 3 (PTI) A Mahila Congress worker from South Chandrapur village here, filed a complaint with the East Agartala Police Station on Monday saying that she has received extortion notices along with many others in the locality.

"I am a Mahila Congress worker.My family and I are being constantly threatened and attacked after since the results of the parliamentary elections were announced. Today, a letter was found in my house. The BJP and its workers, through the letter, demanded Rs 20,000 from my family, as extortion money," Rupa Dey told reporters.
