India: Court reserves order on Robert Vadra's plea to travel abroad

New Delhi, May 29 (PTI) A Delhi court Wednesday reserved for June 3 its order on application of Robert Vadra, accused in a money laundering case, to travel abroad.

Enforcement Directorate opposed the plea, in which Vadra sought permission to travel to the UK and other countries citing health reasons.

Vadra has told the court that as per Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, he has a "small tumour in the large intestine for the further management of which he can take a second opinion in London if he wishes so".

HC grants 4 more months to CBI for Asthana bribery case

New Delhi, May 31 (PTI) The Delhi High Court Friday granted four more months to the CBI to complete its probe in a bribery case involving the agency's former special director Rakesh Asthana.

Justice Mukta Gupta allowed the CBI's plea seeking extension of time to complete its investigation in the case lodged against Asthana, DSP Devender Kumar and middleman Manoj Prasad.

On January 11, the court had granted 10 weeks to the probe agency to complete its investigation. The CBI had approached the high court after completion of 10 weeks time.

India: Man held for raping daughter

Sikar, May 30 (PTI) A man has been arrested Thursday for allegedly raping his 14-year-old daughter for the last two years in Kochhor village of Rajasthan's Sikar district, police said.

The girl shared her ordeal with her mother at her maternal grandmother's residence where she had gone for summer vacation, Ranoli Police Station in-charge Pawan Kumar Chaube said.

A case was registered against the accused Shankar Lal Meena on the complaint of the girl and her mother.

India: Man gets life term for killing wife over dowry

Muzaffarnagar, May 30 (PTI) A fast-track court here Thursday awarded life imprisonment to a man for killing his wife over dowry demand.

Judge Balraj Singh also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on the convict, Satender.

His father Dharampal and mother Shakuntala were acquitted due to a lack of evidence.

According to government lawyer Firoz Ali, victim Anita was strangled to death over dowry demand at Kasumpur Pathedi village in the district on June 28, 2011.

India: JD(U) not joining Modi government

New Delhi, May 30 (PTI) BJP ally JD(U) will not join the new Narendra Modi government, its spokesperson Pavan Varma said on Thursday, in what appears to be a sign of differences with the saffron party over the number of ministerial berths offered to it.

"We are not joining the government. This is our decision," Varma, who is also the general secretary of the Janata Dal (United), told PTI.

Indian Supreme Court says NRC procedure disturbing

New Delhi, May 30 (PTI) In the backdrop of reports that a decorated former army officer has been declared a foreigner by a tribunal in Assam, the Supreme Court on Thursday asked the NRC state coordinator to ensure that fair procedure is adopted in dealing with the claims and objections on inclusion of citizens in the draft National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Chandigarh, May 30 (PTI) With the arrest of two persons, the Punjab Police Thursday claimed to have busted a module of Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), an outfit backed by Pakistan's ISI.

Jagdev Singh and Ravinderpal Singh were allegedly arranging funds and weapons for the sleeper cells of the banned group on the directives of Kulwinderjit Singh alias Khanpuriya, currently in Malaysia.

India: Man held for raping three daughters

Indore, May 30 (PTI) A 45-year-old man was arrested from Khajrana area in the city for allegedly repeatedly raping his three daughters, two of them minors, police said on Thursday.

The accused was arrested on Wednesday, police said, adding that he was Thursday produced before a court, which remanded him in judicial custody till June 12.

"We arrested the accused for raping his three daughters aged 15, 17 and 19. He had been sexually assaulting them for the last four years by threatening them with a sword," police inspector Pritam Singh Thakur said.

India: Raj govt bans ads, sale of e-cigarettes

Jaipur, May 30 (PTI) The Rajasthan government has decided to ban production, distribution, advertisement and sale of e-cigarette in the state.

The decision, which comes a day before the World No Tobacco Day, will be an important step to curb addiction among youths, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said in a statement.

Gehlot said the Congress had promised to take steps to curb use of tobacco among youths in its election manifesto and the step will prove effective.

India: Two held for allegedly molesting minor girl

Gurgaon, May 30 (PTI) The Gurgaon police has arrested two persons for allegedly molesting a minor girl after inviting her to a birthday party, a police officer said on Thursday.

Aman and Ashutosh, both 26, were arrested from Ashok Vihar area, where they were hiding, on Wednesday night under the POCSO Act, Gurgaon police PRO Subhash Bokan said.

During interrogation, Aman disclosed that he is unmarried and runs a cab.
