IAF doesn't count number of dead: Indian Air Force chief Dhanoa

Coimbatore, Mar 4 (PTI) The casualty figure in the air strike on the Balakot camp will be given out by the government, Air Chief Marshal B S Dhanoa said on Monday while asserting that the Indian Air Force does not count the number of dead.

Addressing a press conference here, he said the death toll depends on the number of people present at the target.

3 Kashmiris killed by Indian security forces

Two Kashmiri separatists and a civilian were killed by Indian security forces in Kupwara district of J&K, reported The Hindu.

Five security personnel were also killed in a 56-hour battle.  The Indian security forces personnel killed in this battle are CRPF Inspector Pintu Kumar Singh, Constable Vinod, Sham Narayan Singh Yadav,  and two police constables Naseer Ahmad and Ghulam Mustafa Barah.

8 killed in India-Pakistan fighting amid high tensions

SRINAGAR, India (AP) — Indian and Pakistani soldiers have again targeted each other’s posts and villages along their volatile frontier in disputed Kashmir, killing at least six civilians and two Pakistani troops, officials said Saturday.

But in a sign that tensions between the nuclear-armed rivals could soon ease, a Pakistani Cabinet minister said a key train service between Pakistan and neighboring India would resume on Monday.

India: No campaigning on Lawyers' Asscn voting day

KANPUR: As many as 58 candidates will fight for a total of 20 seats in the election of Lawyers’ Association on March 11. Two nominations were cancelled on Friday and two nominations were withdrawn on Saturday. There were also reports of fights and tearing down of the application form. One group complained that nomination was being withdrawn under pressure while another group stated that the withdrawal was done on own decision.

India: several Jamat-e-Istami leaders' properties sealed in Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 2; PTI/GANASHAKTI: Authorities in Kashmir have sealed several properties belonging to Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), including residences of some of its activists, police said Saturday, days after the Centre banned the outfit on grounds that it was "in close touch" with militant groups and was likely to "escalate secessionist movement".

Several properties, including residential houses, belonging to various JeI leaders and activists were sealed in many areas of the city and elsewhere in the Valley Friday night, a police official said.

India: Noida Authority's Rs 5,827-cr budget for 2019-20

Noida, Mar 1 (PTI) The Noida Authority on Friday announced its annual budget for 2019-20 at Rs 5,827 crore, up from last fiscal's Rs 4,900 crore.

The authority also announced releasing its share in the funding for the upcoming international airport at Jewar, according to an official statement released after its 196th board meeting here.

"The board has also approved the proposal for providing 10-per cent developed plots, maximum to the size of 450 square metres, to farmers. We will send the proposal to government for its final approval," the official added.

India: Dalit man killed by landlord in UP

Muzaffarnagar, Mar 2 (PTI) A 26-year-old Dalit man was allegedly killed by his landlord at Lakhyan village here, police said Saturday.

Popin's body was found lying in an agricultural field, with multiple stab injuries to his neck, said Circle Officer Hariram Yadav.

The incident took place at Lakhyan village which comes under the jurisdiction of Titawi police station.

Indian PM to launch Kalashnikov rifles unit in Amethi

New Delhi, Mar 2 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in Amethi, the parliamentary constituency of Congress president Rahul Gandhi, on Sunday to launch a Kalashnikov rifles manufacturing facility.

During his visit, the PM will unveil several other development projects for Amethi and the region, a statement from his office said. At Kauhar in Amethi, the PM will dedicate the Indo-Russia Rifles Pvt Limited to the nation.

India: Dalit man's charred body found in Bhilwara

Jaipur, Mar 3 (PTI) A Dalit man's charred body has been found in a village in Rajasthan's Bhilwara district, officials said Saturday.

The body was found on early Friday morning. "Prima facie, it appears a murder case. The body of 60-year-old Gangaram Balai was found tied to a tree. However, it is not clear whether he was burnt alive or he was murdered first and then the body was burnt after tying it to a tree," SHO of Bijolia police station Baldev Ram said.

India: 52 couples tie knot at mass wedding

New Delhi, Mar 2 (PTI) Fifty-two couples belonging to the differently-abled and economically weaker sections tied the knot at a mass wedding here on Saturday.

Chosen from different states of the country by charitable organisation Narayan Seva Sansthan (NSS), these couples tied the knot in the two-day-long gala ceremony.

"The couples got household routine appliances and gifts as 'kanyadaan' (marriage ritual) to start their new married life," Prashant Agarwal, president of the NSS, said.
