India: President shows reverence to his teachers

India: BSP to contest all 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar

Patna, Feb 25 (PTI) In what may be seen as a blow to the disjointed anti-NDA front in Bihar, the Bahujan Samaj Party has decided to contest all the 40 Lok Sabha seats in the state, a senior party functionary said on Monday.

According to BSP state in-charge Lalji Medhkar, party supremo Mayawati has convened a meeting of all potential candidates and other office-bearers in the national capital later this week.

India: Adani group wins bids to operate five airports

New Delhi, Feb 25 (PTI) The Adani group has won the bid to operate five out of six airports that were put for privatisation by the central government, a senior official of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) said Monday.

Adanis were the highest bidder for Ahmedabad, Thiruvananthapuram, Lucknow, Mangaluru and Jaipur airports, the official said, adding the bid for the Guwahati airport will be opened on Tuesday.

India: 5 booked for raping woman during 13-day captivity

Palghar, Feb 25 (PTI) Five persons have been booked in Maharashtra's Palghar district for kidnapping a newly-married woman, holding her captive for almost two weeks and repeatedly raping her, police said Monday.

An official said the 21-year-old victim's ordeal began on February 6 when a man posing as a policeman came to her house in Pragati Nagar in Nalasopara and asked her to accompany him to the police station.

India: Agra woman gang-raped in Greater Noida

Noida (UP), Feb 25 (PTI) A woman from Agra was allegedly raped inside an apartment in Greater Noida by two men after she was brought there on the pretext of getting her a job, police said on Monday.

The incident took place on Sunday at the apartment in Sector Tau, under Kasna police station limits, and the accused have been arrested, they said.

MNS burns packets of 'Pakistani' spices in Bombay

Mumbai, Feb 25 (PTI) Activists of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) burned packets of spices they claimed to have been manufactured in Pakistan and being sold to customers, in Sanpada area of neighbouring Navi Mumbai on Sunday.

A MNS leader Monday said the party activists had got a tip-off that a shop in Sanpada node was selling packets of spices that are made in Karachi.

Bombay HC pulls up BJP corporator over illegal hoardings

Mumbai, Feb 25 (PTI) A BJP corporator on Monday drew the ire of the Bombay High Court over violations of its previous orders prohibiting political parties and their members from putting up illegal hoardings.

A bench of justices AS Oka and AS Gadkari directed corporator Murji Patel to file a reply by March 12 as to why contempt proceedings must not be initiated against him for the violation.

India: Man arrested in UP for insulting national flag on WhatsApp

Barabanki (UP), Feb 25 (PTI) A man was arrested here Monday for allegedly insulting the national flag in a post on social media, police said.

The accused, identified as Monis Khan, was arrested from near Ismailpur village here, they said.

The police action followed after one Ajay Pratap lodged a complaint alleging that Khan had posted a content, showing disrespect to the tricolour, through his WhatsApp account, they added.

Khan was arrested, his phone has been seized and further investigations are on, police said.

India: Three held for robbery, gangrape

Jabalpur, Feb 25 (PTI) Three men were arrested Monday in Madhya Pradesh for allegedly committing a series of crimes, including rape, over the last eight days in Jabalpur and Katni districts, police said.

The trio, identified as Mahendra Patel (23), Suraj Dumar (21) and Raju Thapa (25) were picked up from Khamaria area of Jabalpur, said district superintendent of police Amit Singh.

He said the trio are habitual offenders.
