India: Rajasthan notifies 4% reservation for disabled

Jaipur, Jan 30 (PTI) A provision of four-per cent reservation for differently-abled persons in government jobs has been made in Rajasthan.

The secretary of the social justice and empowerment, Shuchi Sharma, said the government had issued a gazette notification last Thursday in compliance with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.

Under the rules, other provisions like advisory board and investigation committee have also been made, she said in a statement.

India: Ramgarh election: Cong candidate in lead

Jaipur, Jan 31 (PTI) The Congress candidate for the Ramgarh assembly election in Rajasthan is leading with a margin of over 5,000 votes, officials said Thursday.

In five out of the total 20 rounds of counting for the polls, Congress's Zubair secured 24,107 votes while BJP's Sukhwant Singh has got 18,616 votes, they said.

BSP's Jagat singh is trailing at third position.

India: Stray cattle menace: Villagers lock cows in UP school

Muzaffarnagar, Jan 31 (PTI) A case has been registered against 24 people for allegedly evicting students and teachers of a government primary school in Uttar Pradesh to keep stray cows, officials said Thursday.

It has been alleged that villagers in Kudana brought the cows inside the school on Wednesday and closed it, Shamli District Magistrate Akhilesh Kumar said.

In December, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had directed officials to make immediate arrangements for proper care of stray cows within a week.

As per early trends available after counting of votes at the end of third of the total 13 rounds, Chautala was leading over Middha by margin of nearly 1,900 votes.

According to a complaint filed by Ramesh Gautam of Ranipurva village under Rupiadeeh police station area on the Indo-Nepal border on Monday, one Dharmendra Singh was misleading him to change his religion.

India: UP Cabinet approves construction of Ganga Expressway

Allahabad (UP), Jan 29 (PTI) In a historic Cabinet meeting during the ongoing Kumbh Mela, the Uttar Pradesh government Tuesday approved the construction of the Ganga Expressway for better connectivity of Allahabad with western districts of the state.

The chief minister, who presided over the meeting, told reporters that the Cabinet gave its approval for the construction of the 600 km expressway, which will be the longest expressway in the world.

India: Man gets 10-yr jail for raping

Thane,Jan 29 (PTI) A Thane court has awarded 10 years' imprisonment to a 23-year-old man for raping a teenager, observing that the accused was not entitled to be acquitted merely because the victim turned hostile.

Special court judge Kavita D Shirbhate, in her order last week, held the accused, Kishore Bhide, guilty under the Indian Penal Code Section 376 (rape) and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
