India: Bihar rain death toll soars to 73, many areas inundated even after a week

Patna, Oct 3; GANASHAKTI: The death toll in rain-related incidents in Bihar soared to 73 on Thursday even as forces involved in relief and rescue operations fished out rotting corpses from water-logged areas in several places.

The torrential rain that took place between September 27 and 30 has created a flood-like situation in 15 districts of the state, including the state capital.

India: Naga tribes take out rally against Citizenship Bill

Kohima, Oct 3 (PTI) Thousands of people representing different Naga tribes attired in their traditional dress on Thursday took out a protest rally here against the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

The protest march was held under the aegis of Joint Committee on Protection of Indigenous People (JCPI), Nagaland and North East Forum of Indigenous People (NEFIP).

They submitted a memorandum to Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio.

India: Karan Singh calls for interfaith movement for peace

Pune, Oct 2 (PTI) There is a need for an interfaith movement for world peace, former Union minister Karan Singh said here on Wednesday.

He was speaking at the `World Parliament of Science, Religion and Philosophy' organized by the MIT World Peace University on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary.

What we need today is an "inter-religious movement for world peace", Singh said.

12-day India-Kazakhstan joint military exercise begins

Pithoragarh, Oct 3 (PTI) A joint military exercise between India and Kazakhstan with focus on counter terrorism operations in mountainous terrain began here on Thursday.

The 12-day exercise named KAZIND-2019 was inaugurated by Brig SK Mandal, Commander of the 111 Independent Infantry Brigade.

It will will conclude on October 15, an Indian Army spokesman said.

India protectionist, but U.S. negotiating limited trade deal: Ross

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - India is among the world’s most protectionist countries but the United States is trying to negotiate a limited trade deal with the South Asian nation to resolve their differences, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross said on Thursday.

The United States and India have been locked in trade disputes for months that have led to tit-for-tat tariffs. Washington has been concerned about Indian policies that mandate foreign firms to store more data locally, restrict the way U.S. e-commerce giants operate and impose price caps on medical devices.

Singapore-India Hackathon 2019 was held at IIT Madras's research centre in Chennai on September 30.
