Indian troops martyred 16 Kashmiris in September

ISLAMABAD, Oct 1 (APP): Indian troops in their continued acts of state terrorism martyred 16 Kashmiris including a woman and two young boys during the last month of September in Indian occupied Kashmir.

According to the data compiled by the Research Section of Kashmir Media Service, of those martyred six youth was killed in fake encounters. The killings rendered one woman widowed and two children orphaned, reported KMS.

NEW DELHI, October 1. /TASS/: Washington has no right to tell New Delhi what to buy from Moscow, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar told reporters during a visit to the United States, commenting on plans to purchase the Russian-made S-400 missile systems.

"We have always maintained that what we buy - the sourcing of military equipment - is very much a sovereign right," he said, as cited by NDTV.

India: Ashok Leyland sales dips 55 pc in Sep at 8,780 units

New Delhi, Oct 1 (PTI) Hinduja Group's flagship firm Ashok Leyland on Tuesday reported 55 per cent decline in its total commercial vehicle sales at 8,780 units in September.

The company had sold a total of 19,374 units in the same month last year, Ashok Leyland said in a regulatory filing.

Total commercial vehicle sales in the domestic market stood at 7,851 units as against 18,078 units in September last year, down 56.57 per cent, it said.

India: Congress demands Kerala CM's resignation

Thiruvananthapuram, Sept 30 (PTI) The Congress in Kerala on Monday demanded immediate resignation of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan after the Kerala High court ordered a CBI probe into the killing of two youth congress workers allegedly by CPI (M) activists in Kasaragod in Febuary this year.

Alleging that the LDF government had taken all steps to help the accused, Leader of the opposition in the state assembly Ramesh Chennithala said the chief minister should resign following the high court ordering CBI probe in the case.

Total 155 nominations filed in UP for assembly bypolls

Lucknow, Sep 30 (PTI) A total of 155 nominations have been filed for the Uttar Pradesh bypolls, voting for which will be held on October 21, the Election Commission said on Monday.

Of the 155 nominations filed so far for the 11 assembly seats going to by-election in the state, 121 were filed on Monday -- the last day of filing the papers.

India: Private bus overturns in Gujarat; 21 dead, 50 injured

Ahmedabad, Sep 30 (PTI) At least 21 people were killed and more than 50 others injured when a packed private luxury bus overturned in Banaskantha district of North Gujarat on Monday evening, said officials.

The ghastly mishap took place at Trishulia Ghat, a hilly patch on the Ambaji-Danta road near Ambaji town of Banaskantha district, around 160km from here.

The private luxury bus, carrying around 70 passengers, overturned at Trishulia Ghat after the driver lost control of the vehicle due to heavy rain in the area, said Banaskantha district SP Ajit Rajian.

India: MP man given death penalty for raping, killing girl

Indore, Sep 30 (PTI) A court here on Monday sentenced a man to death for kidnapping, raping and killing a four-year-old girl.

Special Judge Savita Singh sentenced Hani Athwal (22) alias Kakku to death after finding him guilty under section 376-A of Indian Penal Code (IPC) as well as 363 (kidnapping) and 302 (murder), District Prosecution Officer Mohammad Akram Sheikh told reporters.

Besides, he was also convicted under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the prosecutor said, adding that 36 witnesses were examined in the case.

India: Court rejects bail pleas of Chinmayanand, law student

Shahjahanpur (UP), Sep 30 (PTI) A district court here on Monday rejected the bail pleas of BJP leader Swami Chinmayanand and the law student who has accused him of rape.

The two were sent to 14-day-judicial custody after being arrested in cases that now run parallel.

The former Union minister was booked under section 376C, a charge short of rape, on the basis of a complaint filed by the 23-year-old woman who studied at a college run by his ashram.

India: 282 dengue cases in Delhi; 368 of malaria

New Delhi, Sep 30 (PTI) Nearly 70 fresh cases of dengue have been reported in the national capital over the last one week, taking the total number of people affected by the vector-borne disease to 282, according to a municipal report released on Monday.

The number of malaria cases recorded till September 21 stands at 368, it said.

This is by far the maximum number of malaria and dengue cases recorded in any month this year.
