India: Prof Shamnad Basheer may have died of suffocation: Police

Bengaluru, Aug 9 (PTI) A day after legal scholar Shamnad Basheer was found dead in his car in Karnataka, police on Monday said he may have died due to suffocation, discounting the possibility of any foul play.

Basheer, an alumnus of the National Law School of India University here and the Oxford University, was found dead by police in his car in an open area, a short distance from the road, on the outskirts of the district headquarters town of Chikkamagaluru on Thursday.

Pakistan rules out possibility of India-Afghan trade through Wagah border

Islamabad, Aug 8; GANASHAKTI: Pakistan will not allow Afghanistan to import goods from India via the Wagah border, saying that the transit trade was a bilateral and not a trilateral issue, according to a media report.

Maryam Nawaz arrested by Pakistan's anti-graft body

Lahore, Aug 8 : Maryam Nawaz, Pakistan's former prime minister Nawaz Sharif's daughter, was arrested from the Kot Lakhpat jail here on Thursday in a money laundering case while she was on her way back from visiting her father, who is lodged in the same prison, an official said.

On July 31, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) vice president Maryam was questioned by the anti-corruption agency officials in connection with the alleged money laundering and income beyond means charges against her and her family.

India: Man rapes 70-yr-old in Rajasthan

Kota, Aug 9 (PTI) A man allegedly raped a 70-year-old woman while she was guarding her fields in Rajasthan's Bundi district, police said on Friday.

The incident took place on Tuesday evening and the accused, Gyan Singh Meena (40), who is a resident of Dei town of Bundi, was arrested on Wednesday, they said.

The woman's statement was recorded before a magistrate under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC)under section 164 on Friday.

India: Ayodhya mosque case: Muslim party objects hearing on all days of week

New Delhi, Aug 9 (PTI) A Muslim party on Friday objected in the Supreme Court five-days-a-week hearing of the politically sensitive Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case in Ayodhya, saying it will "not be able to assist" the court if the hearing is "rushed through".

The submission was made by senior advocate Rajeev Dhavan, who is appearing for a Muslim party, when the Supreme Court commenced hearing on the fourth day in the case.

Pakistan to ban all cultural exchanges with India

Islamabad, Aug 9 (PTI) Pakistan has decided to ban all cultural exchanges with India, including all kinds of joint ventures between the entertainment industry of the two countries after India revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, a media report said on Friday.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Thursday launched a national slogan 'Say No to India', Dawn newspaper reported.

Pakistan FM visiting China to discuss Indo-Pak tensions over Kashmir

Islamabad, Aug 9 (PTI) Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Friday dashed to China to discuss with the Chinese leadership Indo-Pak tensions after India revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier this week, India revoked Article 370 to withdraw the special status to Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated the region into two Union Territories --Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh.

Pakistan termed the Indian action as "unilateral and illegal", and said it will take the matter to the UN Security Council.

India: Teacher held for molesting girl student in UP school

Gorakhpur (UP), Aug 8 (PTI) A private school teacher was arrested here on Thursday for allegedly molesting a class 8 girl student on the institute premises, police said.

According to reports, the 13-year-old student told her mother about a school teacher who touched her inappropriately in the classroom.

The girl also alleged that the teacher scolded her and made her sit on the same place in the classroom when she tried to shift, they said.
