India: TMC leader attacks PM on Davos photo with Nirav Modi

Baduria (WB), May 11 (PTI) TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee Saturday said if party leader Madan Mitra can be arrested for "just a picture" with Saradha group founder Sudipta Sen, the prime minister should also be held for "posing" with fugitive diamantaire Nirav Modi.

Mitra, a former transport minister of West Bengal, was released from custody on bail in September 2016, after spending over 21 months in jail in connection with the multi-crore Saradha chitfund scam.

India: FIR against Bihar BJP MP after cash recovery from hotel room

Patna, May 11 (PTI) An FIR was lodged against sitting BJP MP from Sheohar, Rama Devi, following recovery of Rs 4 lakh in cash from a hotel in East Champaran district, where she had been putting up, police said here on Saturday.

The complaint was lodged at Chhatauni police station area in the district, where Rs 4.06 lakh was recovered late Friday night from the hotel where Rama Devi, part of whose constituency falls in East Champaran, has been staying.

2 Kashmiri killed by Indian security forces in Indian administered Kashmir

Srinagar, May 12: Two Kashmiris have been killed in an alleged encounter with Indian security forces in Shopian district, an Indian army official said.

The Indian security forces' spokesman alleged that a cordon and search operation in Hindsitapur area of Shopian district in south Kashmir was conducted following specific information about the presence of Kashmiri separatists there.

India: Country-made gun factory unearthed

Kanpur: Police caught a criminal red-handed while making country-made gun following a raid in one house at Rail Bazaar here on Saturday. Upon continous and rigorous  interrogation he revealed that the gun making factory had been running for the past several years.

After searching the house the police recovered tools required for making the gun.

According to the police, one Ramnaresh r/o Narwal was held with as many as four country-made guns and also disclosed of the persons' names whom he had sold the country-made guns. 

Pak women golf team leave for Thailand

LAHORE, May 11 (APP): A two-member ladies golf team, comprising Parkha Ijaz and Aania Farooq, accompanied by a Lady Manager Zeenat Ayesha, left here on Saturday for Thailand to compete in the 27th Singha Thailand Ladies Open Golf Championship.

This Championship is co-hosted by Thailand Ladies Golf Association and Amata Spring Country Club and will be contested over three rounds from 14th May to 16th May, said a spokesman for Pakistan Golf Federation while talking to APP.

Pakistan, China working to resolve issue of marriages of Pakistani women

ISLAMABAD, May 12 (APP): Pakistan and China are working closely to resolve the issue of marriages of Pakistani women and human trafficking by some Chinese nationals.

This was stated by Foreign Office spokesperson Dr. Muhammad Faisal in a statement issued here on Sunday.

He said that the relevant authorities from both Governments are in close contact on this issue.

At least 13 militants killed in S. Afghan clashes

KABUL, May 12 (Xinhua): At least 13 Taliban militants were killed after clashes erupted between police and militants in Afghanistan's southern province of Kandahar on Saturday, Ministry of Interior Affairs said Sunday.

"Afghan National Police came in contact with militants in Nadir Khan village, Maruf district, Kandahar province; the clashes left 13 militants dead and nine others wounded," the ministry said in a statement.

There were no casualties on the side of national police, the statement added.

15 killed in road mishap in south India

NEW DELHI, May 11 (Xinhua): As many as 15 persons were killed and six injured in a road accident in India's southern state of Andhra Pradesh on Saturday, local media reports said.

The road mishap occurred when a passenger bus collided with another vehicle in Andhra Pradesh's Kurnool district.

The injured were reportedly admitted in a nearby local hospital.

According to the media reports, while 13 people died instantly at the accident site, two others died in the hospital.

Indian Polls: 6th Phase polling starts, EVM glitches reported

New Delhi, May 12 (PTI) Complaints about malfunctioning EVMs poured in from several places of the national capital on Sunday where voting is underway.

Adarsh Gupta, a resident of Matia Mahal area, claimed that at polling booth number 84, 85 and 86, electronic voting machines were initially not working in the morning.

Aam Aadmi Party's Malviya Nagar MLA Somnath Bharti alleged that EVMs at booths number -- 116,117 and 122 -- were not functioning.

Masses facing difficulties courageously along with their captain: Firdous

ISLAMABAD, May 11 (APP): Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan Saturday said that people of Pakistan were facing difficulties with courage and determination along with their captain.

In a tweet the SAPM said that the goal of Prime Minister Imran Khan was permanent treatment of the cancer spread in the system.

She said that the development of strong autonomous institutions, eradication of corruption, poverty and inflation and development of backward areas were top priorities of the government.
