India "under attack" from the BJP and RSS: Rahul

Pathanapuram (Ker), Apr 16 (PTI) Hitting out at the Sangh Parivar, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi Tuesday said the country was "under attack" from the BJP and RSS, who want to suppress all voices other than their own.

Addressing an election rally at the St Stephen college grounds here in Kollam district, Gandhi said India should be ruled by people of the country and not just one ideology or person.

India: IIT-R finds new method to detect breast, ovarian cancer

Roorkee, Apr 15 (PTI) Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee have found a new method to detect breast and ovarian cancer, responsible for one fifth of cancer-related deaths worldwide.

The research published in the journal, 'FASEB Bioadvances' details the use of whole saliva as a body fluid for early detection of breast and ovarian cancers, as opposed to the traditional method of using blood samples.

Indian Polls: Rajnath Singh files nomination papers for Lucknow seat

Lucknow, Apr 16 (PTI) Union Home minister Rajnath Singh Tuesday filed his nomination papers for the Lucknow Lok Sabha seat after holding a roadshow in the Uttar Pradesh capital, where BJP supporters turned up in large numbers and showered flower petals on him.

Accompanied by Uttar Pradesh BJP chief Mahendra Nath Pandey, Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma and former Union minister Kalraj Mishra, Singh submitted his election affidavit to Lucknow District Magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma.

India: 1000 arms holders get concession to keep licensed arms

Kanpur: Formed under the president ship of the District Magistrate on the directives of the Election Commission, the Screening Panel has allowed only those persons to keep the licensed arms who face threat to their lives all the time. 

According to the reports more than l000 people were permited to carry their arms during the election time. An arms holder secures a certificate of license after getting concession for keepung the arms. They will not have to deposit their arms during the polls. 

India: Fake News - Abhinandan Varthaman voted for BJP

15 Apr 2019; Alt News: A viral post on Facebook claims that Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman has openly come out in support of the BJP and voted for the party in the ongoing Lok Sabha election. The post has a photograph of a person who looks similar to Wing Commander Varthaman, and is seen sporting a saffron scarf with the BJP symbol imprinted on it.

Modi Biopic: SC directs EC to watch movie, submit sealed decision

New Delhi, Apr 15 (PTI) The Supreme Court Monday directed the Election Commission to watch the full biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and take an informed decision by April 19 on banning its pan India release.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi also directed the poll panel to submit its decision to the court in a sealed cover and said it will consider the matter on April 22.

Indian Polls: Adityanath, Mayawati censured, barred from campaigning for 72, 48 hrs respectively

New Delhi, Apr 15 (PTI) The Election Commission on Monday "strongly condemned" Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and BSP supremo Mayawati for their communal remarks and barred them from campaigning for different periods.

While Adityanath was barred for 72 hours, Mayawati has been barred for 48 hours, separate EC orders said.

The two have also been "censured".

India: Woman raped by two youths in front of mother

Muzaffarnagar, April 15 (PTI) A 22-year-old woman was allegedly raped by two youths in front of her mother in a sugarcane field in Kakrauli area of the district, police said.

The incident happened Sunday when the victim along with her mother had gone to buy medicines in Kakroli police station area here.

A case has been registered against the two accused, including Dilshad, and an unidentified person who were absconding, Station House Officer (SHO Jitender Kumar said, adding the victim has been sent for medical examination.
