Contempt plea: SC seeks Rahul Gandhi's explanation

New Delhi, Apr 15 (PTI) The Supreme Court Monday made it clear that remarks made by Rahul Gandhi in the media on the Rafale case verdict were "incorrectly attributed" to the apex court and directed the Congress President to give his explanation by April 22.

The apex court said it will consider the petition filed by BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi seeking contempt action against Gandhi for attributing some observations to the apex court which was not in the Rafale judgement.

India: 3 Naxal terrorists, CRPF jawan killed in Jharkhand

Ranchi, Apr 15 (PTI) Three Maoists and a CRPF jawan were killed in an encounter in Jharkhand's Giridih district on Monday, officials said.

They said the encounter between the two sides took place around 6 am in the forests of Belbha Ghat area of the district when troops of the 7th battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were undertaking an anti-Naxal operation.

The district is about 185 kms from state capital Ranchi.

Indian polls: SBSP to go alone in UP

Ballia (UP), Apr 15 (PTI) The Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP), an ally of the ruling BJP in Uttar Pradesh, on Monday said it will go alone in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls in the state.

"The SBSP will contest the Lok Sabha election on its own. It will field candidates from 25 seats (in Uttar Pradesh) and their names will be announced soon," party chief and state minister Om Prakash Rajbhar told reporters at his residence here.

The SBSP had won four seats in the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.

India: BJP has deviated from path of truth: Priyanka

Agra, Apr 15 (PTI) Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Monday alleged that the BJP had deviated from the path of truth and it seemed that the saffron party neither has faith in democracy nor in the people.

The Congress secretary general in-charge for Uttar Pradesh (East) also said the BJP instead of speaking about India and what it had done for its youth was talking about Pakistan.

"It seems that the government has faith neither in democracy, its institutions nor the people..had they been real nationalists they would have tread the path of truth.

Death toll rises to 3 in aircraft collision in Nepal's Lukla airport

KATHMANDU, April 14 (Xinhua) -- The death toll in Sunday's aircraft collision in Nepal's Lukla airport climbed to three, according to Nepal Police Headquarters.

A co-pilot and a policeman were killed on the spot when an aircraft of Summit Air with call sign 9N-AMH skidded off the runway and collided with a parked helicopter of Manang Air.

The death toll climbed to three after another policeman, who had been seriously injured and airlifted to the capital city Kathmandu, passed away at the Grande Hospital, the Nepal Police Headquarters said.

India: Kanpur metro project halted due to elections

Kanpur: Despite clearance of 11140 crore budget for metro project in the city by the Central government, the furtherance in the work was halted owing to the elections. The tender for priority section could not be initiated.

The officials related with the Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation pointed out work tender on route from IIT via Kalyanpur railway station, SPM hospital, CSJMU, Gurudev Crossing, Hallet Hospital to Moti Jheel and nine other routes would be invited after the polls. 

Indian security forces kill 2 Kashmiri in Indian administered Jammu and Kashmir

Kashmir, Apr 13: Two Kashmiri separatists were killed by Indian security forces in Shopian district of Indian administered Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

The slain Kasmiris have been identified as Abid Wagay, a resident of Rawalpora Shopian, and Shahjahan Mir from Amshepora Shopian.

India: 'suspicious black trunk' in PM Modi's helicopter

New Delhi, Apr 14; GANASHAKTI: The Congress Sunday demanded a thorough probe into the alleged transportation of a "suspicious black trunk" in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's helicopter during his visit to Chitradurg in Karnataka.

Congress spokesperson Anand Sharma asked the prime minister to come clean on the issue and said the EC should inquire into the contents of the trunk.

He said the Congress' Karnataka unit has already filed a complaint with the EC in this regard.

While addressing massive public meetings of LDF in various centers in Kollam district Pinarayi said that  Modi is trying to insult the people of Kerala.  Pinarayi also said that the Election Code of Conduct should apply to the Prime Minister.
