India: CRPF jawan injured in IED blast by Naxal terrorists

Gadchiroli, Apr 10 (PTI) A CRPF jawan escorting a polling party was injured in an IED blast in the Naxal-affected Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra Wednesday, a day ahead of voting for the Lok Sabha elections.

The incident comes a day after a BJP MLA and four security personnel were killed in a Naxal attack in Dantewada district of neighbouring Chhattisgarh.

India: UP BJP MLA dies of heart attack

Agra (UP), Apr 10 (PTI) BJP MLA from Agra East constituency Jagan Prasad Garg died of heart attack at a private hospital here on Wednesday. He was 65.

Garg, , a five-time MLA, had been unwell for the past two days, his family members said.

Several Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders paid their tributes to Garg.

A popular leader of the Vaishya community, Garg represented the Agra East constituency in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly.

Torn pages of Sikh holy book found in Punjab village drain

Tarn Taran, Apr 10 (PTI) Pages of a holy Sikh book (Gutka Sahib) were allegedly found torn from a non-functional drain in Panjwar village here, the police said.

An FIR was registered against unknown persons under Section 295 of the IPC for hurting religious sentiments at the Chabbal Police Station, SHO Baljit Singh said.

A probe has been initiated and some locals have been questioned, Singh added.

Panjwar was a hotbed of terror activities in the late nineties when insurgency was at its peak in Punjab.

Kerala HC grants bail to BJP candidate who attack woman in Sabarimala

Kochi, Apr 11 (PTI) The Kerala High Court Thursday granted conditional bail to the BJP's candidate for Kozhikode Lok Sabha constituency, Prakash Babu, arrested in a case related to an alleged attack on a woman devotee in Sabarimala temple last November.

He was sent to jail on March 28 by a court in Ranni in Pathanamthitta district in connection with the case.

Granting bail to Babu, Justice Alexander Thomas directed him to appear before the investigating officer on the second and fourth Saturdays every month after the Lok Sabha elections for four months.

Indian PM's visit to Assam on polling day violates MCC

Jorhat, Apr 11 (PTI) Former Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi on Thursday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the state for campaigning on polling day is a violation of the model code of conduct (MCC).

Gogoi said this at the DCB Girls High School polling station in Jorhat when he was there to cast his vote. His son Gaurav Gogoi, a sitting MP, was accompanying him.

Indian Polls: Sonia Gandhi files nomination for Rae Bareli LS seat

Rae Bareli, Apr 11 (PTI) UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi Thursday filed her nomination papers from the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

She was accompanied by her son and Congress president Rahul Gandhi, daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and her son-in-law Robert Vadra.

Before filing her nomination papers at the Collectorate here, the UPA chairperson held a roadshow and offered puja at the Congress central office here.

Anti-BJP votes deleted across India: Arvind Kejriwal

New Delhi, Apr 11 (PTI) AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal Thursday claimed that genuine anti-BJP votes have been deleted across India at an "unprecedented scale" and questioned the Election Commission over the fairness of the ongoing polls.

His deputy Manish Sisodia accused the EC of "serving the BJP".

In a series of tweets, Kejriwal tagged the people who claimed their names or the names of their relatives have been deleted from the voter lists.

Indian Polls: 55.9pc cast votes till 1 pm in West Bengal

Alipurduar, Apr 11 (PTI) Around 55.9 per cent of voters exercised their franchise till 1 pm in two parliamentary constituencies in West Bengal on Thursday, an election official said.

An estimated 55.44 per cent of voters cast their ballots in the Cooch Behar (SC) constituency, while 56.45 per cent polling was recorded in the Alipurduar (ST) seat, till 1 pm, a senior official of the Election Commission said.

Indian Polls: Over 24 per cent polling till 1100 hrs in UP

Lucknow, Apr 11 (PTI) Over 24 per cent polling has been recorded till 11 am in the eight Lok Sabha seats of western Uttar Pradesh on Thursday in the first leg of the seven-phased general elections.

Three Union ministers-- V K Singh (Ghaziabad), Satyapal Singh (Baghpat) and Mahesh Sharma (Gautam Buddha Nagar) are in the fray in this phase.
