India: Election pattern changed in Manchester of East

Kanpur: As many as 11 Parliamentarians have so far been sent to Dome of Democracy from  Kanpur. This figure covers all the 18 general elections held from the year1951 to 2014.

The party-wise figure goes thus: Congress 7,BJP 4,Independent 4, Praja Socialist Party 1,BLD 1, CPI 1.

There were 8 independent candidates who contested election in the year 2004. It was for the first time in the history of Kanpur a total of 16 candidates were in the fray.  

India: CBSE examinees trap in Economics question paper

Kanpur: The CBSE examinees trapped into tricky questions in Economics paper of Class 12. They could not solve question related with the national income. That particular question was so asked as it caused mental stress to the examinees. 

One teacher told the question paper was tricky but it was scoring too. The students were a little more panicky. 

On the contrary, the Class 10 Computer question paper was too easy to solve. They got considerable choice in the theory paper. They did not dishearten by looking at the question paper. 

India shoots down satellite, becomes 'space superpower'

27 Mar 2019; DW: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday that his country's forces had shot down a low-orbit satellite as part of a test exercise.

Modi said he was proud of his scientists and congratulated those behind the mission. He said the exercise proved India had become a "space superpower," bringing it in line with the US, Russia and China.

Afghanistan holds agriculture fair to promote domestic products

KABUL, March 26 (Xinhua) -- As part of its annual program to exhibit various domestic products, Afghanistan has held its 22nd agriculture and handicrafts exhibition in capital Kabul.

The exhibition, which was held from March 22-26 at the Badam Bagh agriculture park, a garden in northern outskirts of Kabul city, was visited by thousands of people from around the country.

Indian Polls: Left calls PM biopic 'propaganda material, moves EC to defer release

New Delhi, Mar 26; PTI/GANASHAKTI: A delegation of the CPI and the CPI(M) has met Election Commission officials and demanded that release of the film based on the life of Prime Minister Narendra Modi be deferred, claiming it to be a "propaganda material".

CPI's D Raja and CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Nilotpal Basu met the poll panel officials on Monday and also pointed out serious law and order situations in Tripura and West Bengal.

Indian EC functioning like puppet in hands of BJP, says CPI-M

Coimbatore, Mar 26; PTI/GANASHAKTI: Tamil Nadu CPI-M secretary K Balakrishnan Tuesday accused the Election Commission of India of being a puppet in the hands of BJP.

Cases were booked against opposition parties for violating code of conduct even if a candidate garlanded a statue, Balakrishnan told reporters here.

The party would soon submit a memorandum to the chief electoral officer on the need to change the election officers working for long in the same post and appoint news ones for free and fair functioning, he said.

India: Nirmohi Akhara requests SC to move Ayodhya mediation to 'neutral place'

New Delhi, Mar 26; PTI/GANASHAKTI: Nirmohi Akhara, one of the original litigants in the Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case, has requested the Supreme Court to consider moving the mediation panel proceedings from Faizabad in Uttar Pradesh to New Delhi or some other "neutral place" due to the sensitive nature of the issue.

It has also said that an amicable resolution would be possible only through "direct dialogue" between the UP Sunni Wakf Board and the Nirmohi Akhara.

Pakistan PM says Indo-Pak tension to remain till elections in India

Islamabad, Mar 26; PTI/GANASHAKTI: Prime Minister Imran Khan has said Indo-Pak relations would remain tense till the general elections in India are over.

Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after the February 14 attack by Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed in Pulwama.

Indian Polls: EC decides symbols for independent candidates

Kanpur: There remains a crowd of independent candidates in the general elections.

This tendency also appears at the present edition of the parlimentary polls.

The unique as well as odd symbols of the independepent candidates do attract the voters.

Capsicum, Bread, Air-conditioner and other things have been selected as the election symbol by them.

According to the Election Commission, as many as 178 symbols have been chosen for distributing to the independent candidats.

India: Ishrat Jahan case: CBI allowed to file reply on ex-cops' plea

Ahmedabad, Mar 26; PTI/GANASHAKTI: A special CBI court Tuesday allowed the CBI to file its reply on applications moved by former police officers D G Vanzara and N K Amin to drop proceedings against them in the 2004 Ishrat Jahan alleged fake encounter case.

The applications were moved by the two retired police officials on Tuesday.

The court of special CBI judge J K Pandya allowed CBI lawyer R C Kodekar to seek the view of the "higher authority" in the investigating agency, as requested by Pandya, and submit its reply on April 3 on the applications.
