India: Half-burnt body of missing woman found in UP's Shamli

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Mar 24 (PTI) The half-burnt body of a 23-year-old woman, who had been missing for two days, was found in Sohjani Umerpur village in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district, police said Sunday.

The body was found dumped in a husk storage shed on Saturday, they said.

Thanabhawan SHO Sandeep Balyan said the body was sent for post-mortem.

He said some suspects have been taken into police custody for interrogation and the investigation is on.

India: Army personnel killed in LoC firing by Pakistan

Jammu, Mar 24 (PTI) An Army personnel was killed on Sunday in firing by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, officials said.

They said the cross-border firing started in Shahpur and Kerni areas of Poonch around 5.30 pm Saturday and it continued intermittently through the night.

Kanpur: City is not wholly safe from the disease of tuberculosis. This manifests from the number of patients increasing day by day. According to the DOTS centres, the number has reached to 8500. Besides, the TB patients admitted  at the private nursing homes touch the figure of 3500. There were as many as 423 Multi-drug-resistant TB and 30 Extensively drug-resistant infected patients. 

At least 10 civilians killed in N. Afghan airstrikes

KUNDUZ, Afghanistan, March 23 (Xinhua) -- At least 10 civilians were killed and eight others wounded following airstrikes targeting militants in northern Afghan province of Kunduz overnight, a local official said Saturday.

"Fighting and clashes during a military operation have been ongoing in Taluka, an area some 8 km north of provincial capital Kunduz city within the past days. Security forces launched airstrikes against militants in Taluka Friday night, but the strikes also caused civilian casualties," Yousuf Ayoubi, a provincial council official, told Xinhua.

India: BJP leaders took Rs 1,800 crore in bribes from Yeddyurappa: Congress

New Delhi, March 22; PTI/GANASHAKTI: In a press conference conducted by Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala on Friday, the party accused several BJP leaders of receiving bribes.

Referring to a story by The Caravan magazine, the Congress leader said that former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP leader B.S. Yeddyurappa bribed top leadership of the government in 2009.

Two US soldiers killed in Afghanistan

Kabul, Mar 22 (AFP) Two US service members were killed in Afghanistan Friday, NATO said, in the latest casualties to hit the international coalition amid ongoing peace talks between Washington and the Taliban.

NATO's Resolute Support mission would not immediately release any details about the soldiers but said they had been killed during an unspecified "operation" in the country.

Indian Polls: AAP to kick-start campaign for Delhi's full statehood

New Delhi, Mar 22 (PTI) The AAP would start its campaign for Delhi's full statehood from Saturday under the leadership of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the party said in a statement.

The Aam Aadmi Party said the main agenda of this campaign would be to highlight how people of the national capital "were cheated by the BJP".

It said the campaign for full statehood will start on the death anniversary of freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.

Kashmiri killed by Indian security forces in Shopian

Srinagar, 23 Mar 2019; A Kashmiri separatist by Indian security forces on Friday in an alleged in Shopian district of the Indian controlled Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

According to a PTI report; the Indian security forces have alleged that a cordon and search operation in Imamsahib area of Shopian in south Kashmir following information about presence of Kashmiri separatist there, an Indian army official said.

India: IAS official shoots and injures wife; hangs self

Mumbai, Mar 22 (PTI) A 57-year-old IAS official allegedly committed suicide by hanging after firing two rounds from an airgun at his wife in the early hours of Friday in Maharashtra's Solapur district, police said.

Vijaykumar Bhagwat Pawar hanged himself after shooting at and injuring his wife Sonali in Marvade in Mangalwedha town in Solapur, over 380 kilometres from here, an official said.
