2 held for gang-raping Nepali woman

Jaipur, Oct 21 (PTI) Two men have been arrested for allegedly gang-raping a 23-year-old Nepali woman here, police said Sunday.

Based on the survivor's complaint, the accused Lokesh Saini (19) and Kamal Saini (24) were arrested late Saturday night, said ACP Jaipur South K K Awasthi.

The accused had allegedly gang-raped the woman on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, SHO Muhana Police Station area Devendra Kumar said.

9 Kashmiris killed by Indian security forces

Srinagar, Oct 21 (PTI) Three militants were killed Sunday in an encounter with security forces in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, while six civilians lost their lives in a blast following the gunfight there, police said.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Laroo area of Kulgam district in south Kashmir following specific information about the presence of militants in the area, a police official said.

While conducting searches the militants fired upon them, he said, adding three terrorists were killed in the ensuing encounter.

Man ‘stoned to death by monkeys’ in Uttar Pradesh - FIR lodged

A seventy year old man was stoned to death by a group of monkeys on October 17 in Tikri village.

According to Krishnapal Singh, the brother of the deceased, Dharampal was collecting woods when he was attacked by the monkeys. Bricks were thrown at his head and chest. Dharampal was admitted in hospital where he succumbed to injuries.

BJP councillor arrested for criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty

Meerut; A BJP councillor named Munish Kumar from Meerut has been arrested for assaulting a Sub-Inspector after a video showing him thrashing and abusing a Sub-Inspector went viral.

According to The Indian Express, “The sub-inspector, who was accompanied by a lady lawyer, got into an argument with a waiter which later turned violent as Kumar intervened. The councillor could be heard accusing the cop of being drunk and also hurled abuses at him, to which the lady lawyer retaliated similarly.”

Afghans vote in parliamentary elections amid tight security

KABUL, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Millions of Afghan voters cast their ballots on Saturday for long-delayed parliamentary elections in the militancy-plagued country amid reports of security threats and irregularities.

The polling, according to the Independent Election Commission (IEC), started at 7:00 a.m. local time and will continue until 4:00 p.m. local time.

The voting, according to the IEC, continued smoothly as of midday amid tight security.

The IEC is likely to extend the voting time as scores of polling centers opened later than the expected time in the morning.

India: 37 trains cancelled, 16 diverted day after Amritsar tragedy

New Delhi, Oct 20 : The railways cancelled 37 trains and diverted 16 trains on Saturday, a day after Dussehra revellers were mowed down by a train while they were watching the burning of a Ravan effigy while standing on the tracks near Amritsar, officials said.

Sixty-one people were killed and more than 70 injured in the tragedy.

India: Muzaffarnagar woman killed over dowry

Muzaffarnagar, Oct 18 (PTI) A 28-year-old woman was allegedly poisoned to death by her in-laws over dowry demand at Nawla village in Muzzafarnagar, police said Thursday.

Circle Officer Rajive Kumar Singh said a case has been registered against the woman's husband Nitin kumar, father in-law Rakesh, mother in-law Dulari and brother in-law Sachin.

He said they are absconding.

Minu married Nitin four years ago.
