US, Chinese unease as Putin seeks India arms deals

4 Oct 2018; AFP: Russian President Vladimir Putin headed for India on Thursday looking to tie up billions of dollars in arms deals with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, likely irking the US, China and Pakistan in one fell swoop.

The Kremlin said before the two-day visit by Putin and top Russian ministers that the "key feature" would be the signing of a $5-billion deal for the S-400 air defence system, despite the risk of US sanctions against countries buying Russian defence kit.

Three Naxal terrorists killed in Chhattisgarh; arms seized

Raipur, Oct 3; PTI: Three Naxals were gunned down in an encounter with security forces in a dense forest in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh, police said on Wednesday.

Besides, one ultra was arrested from the encounter site, located around 500 km from the state capital Raipur, they said.

The gunbattle took place Tuesday evening in the forest of Muler village when a team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) was out on an anti-Naxal operation, Sukma Superintendent of Police Abhishek Meena told PTI over phone.

Mishra warns that any Ratha Yatra will be dealt severely

Kolkata, October 3; GANASHAKTI: CPI(M) West Bengal State Secretary Suryakanta  Mishra  today, addressing Jatha participants in Kolkata, has said that people will break any Charriot taken out to harm the unity of people in State.

He said that We are hearing three Ratha yatra  are being planned by BJP to be taken out.

People will break the chariot if any of these cause riots or communal strife in the state.

We still remember the way through out the country riots were caused by the taking out chariots by the BJP.

Mukesh Ambani richest Indian for 11th consecutive year: Forbes

New Delhi, Oct 4 (PTI) Reliance Industries' Chairman Mukesh Ambani has emerged as the richest Indian for the 11th consecutive year with a net worth of USD 47.3 billion, according to Forbes magazine.

Ambani is also the year's biggest gainer, adding USD 9.3 billion to his wealth amid the continuing success of his Reliance Jio broadband telco service.

India: Sensex plummets over 800 pts on sinking rupee

Mumbai, Oct 4 (PTI) The BSE benchmark Sensex plummeted over 800 points in afternoon session Thursday as rupee sank to another low amid boiling crude prices, weak global cues.

The rupee plunged to a new low of 73.81 against the dollar, while the international benchmark Brent crude breached the US 86 per barrel level, nearing its four-year high.

The BSE 30-share barometer pared some losses and was trading at 616.15 points, or 1.71 per cent, lower at 35,359.48 at 1245 hrs.

The gauge had lost nearly 550 points in the previous session Wednesday.

Girl, mother raped in Haryana; 7 cops among 18 booked

Kaithal, Oct 4 (PTI) A 16-year-old girl has alleged that she and her mother were raped by an assistant sub-inspector rank police official in a village here last month following which police booked 18 people, including seven policemen in the case.

The victim told senior officials the main accused who was a ASI rank police official raped them at their house here last month, while other accused, including a sarpanch and former sarpanch of the village, stood outside and supported him, a senior police official said.

India deports 7 Rohingyas to Myanmar

New Delhi, Oct 4 (PTI) India on Thursday deported seven Rohingya immigrants, who have been staying in Assam illegally, to their country of origin Myanmar, in a first such move with regard to the people from the Rakhine province of the neighbouring country.

The illegal immigrants were detained in 2012 and since then they were lodged in Cachar Central Jail in Assam's Silchar.

IAF launching competition to develop drones

New Delhi, Oct 3 (PTI) To promote and enthuse participation of sharpest technical minds and tap innovative potential in emerging technological domain, the Indian Air Force is launching a competition to develop and design drones, Air Force Chief B S Dhanoa said Wednesday.

"The Indian Air Force is launching a competition to develop and design drones," the Air Force Chief said in press conference.
