India: Man held for raping MBA job aspirant in Mumbai hotel

Mumbai, Sep 23 (PTI) A 25-year-old man was arrested in the early hours of Monday for allegedly raping a woman after she was called to a hotel room in Mumbai's Juhu area for a job interview, police said.

An official said Sahil Singh Arora, a native of Delhi, was held from a kin's residence following a tip-off.

"He had promised the victim, an MBA hailing from Uttar Pradesh, a job in the human resources department of a private bank. She was then asked to attend an interview in a hotel room where she was raped," he said.

India: 4-yr-old raped in Navi Mumbai

Mumbai, Sep 24 (PTI) A four-year-girl was allegedly raped by a man when she went to play outside her house in Maharashtra's Navi Mumbai township, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place on Sunday in Taloja area, located around 35 km from here, following which the accused, Ashok Kumar Yadav (24), was arrested, a police official said.

When the girl was playing outside her house, Yadav, a daily wage labourer who stayed nearby, allegedly lured the girl on some pretext and took her to a secluded place where he raped her, he said.

India: 7-yr-old girl gangraped in Maharashtra

Thane, Sep 23 (PTI) A seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped by three men in a dilapidated building near her school in Maharashtra's Thane district, police said on Monday.

The incident took place last Thursday following which the three accused, who sexually harassed the Class 2 girl on previous occasions also, were arrested, Bazarpeth police station's inspector Yeshwant Chavan said.

The accused, identified as Navin Jasuza (24), Ajay Dehare (34) and Vikram Purohit (19), worked at different shops in Kalyan town here.

Ahmednagar (Maha), Sep 21 (PTI) NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Saturday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the latter's swipe about Pawar `liking' Pakistan, and said it did not behove a PM to speak before verifying the facts.

India: Woman arrested for `killing' baby daughter

Nagpur, Sep 19 (PTI) A 22-year-old woman allegedly killed her infant daughter at Ranala village near here on Thursday, the police said.

The accused was identified as Payal Anil Kanoje, resident of Aroli in Mouda tehsil of Nagpur district.

An official of Kamptee police station said Payal had given birth to the baby daughter 23 days ago. It was a premature delivery.

India: Nationalist Congress Party workers detained ahead of PM's rally

Nashik, Sep 19 (PTI) Around 20 workers of the Nationalist Congress Party were detained by police ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally in Maharashtra's Nashik city on Thursday.

Those detained included city NCP president Ranjan Thakare and state vice-president Nanasaheb Mahale and also some women.

It was a preventive measure as NCP workers had staged a protest during chief minister Devendra Fadnavis' rally here on Wednesday, said an official of Ambad police station.

All of them were released in the evening, he said.

India: Mungekar demands round-table conference on economic slow-down

Pune, Sep 19 (PTI) Policies adopted by the BJP-led Union government after coming to power in 2014 were responsible for the current economic slow-down, economist Dr Bhalchandra Mungekar said here on Thursday.

India: ICCR plans series of events to boost India's soft power

Nagpur, Sep 20 (PTI) The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) has planned a slew of programmes to promote the country's 'cultural identity' worldwide and boost its soft power, the organisation's president, Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, has said.

Sahasrabuddhe, who is also BJP vice-president, said the ICCR will organise programmes like 'Understanding India' and 'Destination India' in the coming months.

India: Modi targets 'loudmouths' on Ram temple; jibe may hurt Sena

Nashik, Sep 19 (PTI) In a jibe without naming ally Shiv Sena, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said the Supreme Court is hearing the Ram Mandir case and asked "some loudmouths" to refrain from making statements on the issue.

"I am amazed at the 'bayan bahadurs and badbole' (loudmouths) on the Ram Mandir issue. Every one in the country respects the Supreme Court. The apex court is hearing the case. I want to tell these people with folded hands to have faith in the judicial system," Modi said at a rally here.

India: EC won't listen to our concerns over EVMs: Malik

Mumbai, Sep 18 (PTI) There is no use of raising the EVM-related concerns before the Election Commission as it is not going to listen, NCP leader Nawab Malik said on Wednesday after meeting the poll panel officials over various issues ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly polls.

The NCP and some other opposition parties in the past raised questions over the veracity of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
