India: Colombian woman claims Mumbai cop made sexual advances

Mumbai, Apr 22 (PTI) A 30 year-old Colombian national stuck in Mumbai due to the coronavirus-enforced lockdown has alleged that a junior police officer had made sexual advances on her at a hotel, according to her complaint.

The woman said that she had filed a complaint with the Mumbai Police via an e-mail, which is confirmed by a senior police officer on Wednesday.

India: 53 mediapersons test coronavirus positive in Mumbai

Mumbai, Apr 20 (PTI) At least 53 mediapersons from Mumbai have tested positive for coronavirus, a city civic official said on Monday.

During a special camp organised at the Azad Maidan here on April 16 and 17 for COVID-19 testing of scribes, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) collected swab samples of 171 mediapersons, including electronic and print media journalists, photographers and cameramen.

India: Kin vandalise hospital in Maha after patient's death

Nashik, Apr 19 (PTI) A critically-ill patient died while being shifted to an isolation ward in the General Hospital at Malegaon in the district on Sunday, following which his relatives allegedly vandalised the hospital property, police said.

According to police, a 45-year-old patient, who was suffering from respiratory problems, was brought to the hospital by his relatives in a critical condition on Sunday afternoon.

Indian Rupee declines 14 paise to 76.53 against US dollar

Mumbai, Apr 20 (PTI) The Indian rupee declined by 14 paise to settle at 76.53 (provisional) against the US dollar on Monday, amid strengthening of the American currency overseas and a sharp rise in coronavirus cases in the country.

Forex traders said a firm US dollar weighed on the local unit. Besides, investor sentiment remain fragile amid concerns over the impact of coronavirus outbreak on the domestic as well as global economy.

India: Maha minister backs proposal to send migrants back

Mumbai, Apr 16 (PTI) Maharashtra Minister of State for Home Shambhuraje Desai on Thursday said the state government's `demand' of special trains for taking migrants back to their home states was valid.

Speaking to a Marathi news channel, Desai said that Shiv Sena leader and state tourism minister Aaditya Thackeray had been saying that migrant labours stranded in Maharashtra should have been allowed to return to their home states.

Indian Rupee tanks 36 paise to all-time low of 76.80 against US dollar

Mumbai, Apr 16 (PTI) The Indian rupee tanked 36 paise to an all-time low of 76.80 against the US dollar in opening trade on Thursday, tracking weak domestic equities and sharp rise in coronavirus cases in the country.

Forex traders said the weakness in the rupee was largely due to strengthening of the US Dollar against the basket of currencies as investors fled to safe haven Greenback amid weakening risk appetite in the markets.

India: Migrants' protest in Mumbai: FIR against TV journalist

Mumbai, Apr 15 (PTI) An FIR has been registered against a television journalist over his report that trains would restart, which may have prompted gathering of migrants in suburban Bandra on Tuesday, a police official said.

The accused, Rahul Kulkarni, based in Osmanabad district of Maharashtra, has been detained and police are in the process of bringing him to Mumbai, he said.

India: Three Sassoon Hospital nurses test coronavirus positive

Pune, Apr 15 (PTI) Three nurses working in the isolation ward of state-run Sassoon General Hospital here in Maharashtra have tested positive for coronavirus, an official said on Wednesday.

The other nurses of the Pune-based hospital have been quarantined and their samples have also been sent for testing, he said.

India: Migrant workers come out on road in Mumbai; want to go back home

Mumbai, Apr 14 (PTI) Hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announed extension of the coronavirus-enforced lockdown till May 3, a large number of migrant workers who earn daily wages came out on road here on Tuesday demanding transport arrangements to go back to their native places.

Daily wage workers have been rendered jobless ever since the lockdown was announced late last month to stem the spread of COVID-19, making their life a constant struggle.
