US, Iraq affirm commitment to consolidating security, military cooperation

10 August 2023; MEMO: The US and Iraq have reiterated their commitment to strengthening dialogue,security and military cooperation, Anadolu Agency reports.

The move came in a statement, released on Wednesday, at the conclusion of a two-day US-Iraq security cooperation dialogue in Washington between US Defence Secretary, Lloyd Austin, and Iraqi Defence Minister, Thabit Muhammad Al-Abassi.

Iraq Premier inaugurates Turkiye-built hospital

10 August 2023; MEMO: Iraq's Prime Minister, on Thursday, inaugurated a hospital that was built by a Turkish construction company in the south-eastern Maysan province, Anadolu Agency reports.

Premier Mohammed Shia Al-Sudan participated in the opening of Al-Hekim Training and Research Hospital, which was constructed by the Turkish company, Universal Acarsan, and has a capacity of 600 beds.

US, UK, Canada sanction Lebanon Central Bank ex-Governor over alleged corruption

11 August 2023; MEMO: The United States, Britain and Canada, on Thursday, announced sanctions against the former Governor of Lebanon's Central Bank, Riad Salameh, accusing him of corrupt actions to enrich himself and his associates, Reuters reports.

Syria President Assad would 'welcome home refugees'

10 August 2023; MEMO: Syrian President, Bashar Al Assad, has said he would welcome home refugees who escaped the country's long-running civil war, Sky News Arabia reports.

According to the report, Assad blamed the country's economic situation as the reason why refugees are not returning to their homeland, pointing to the "image of war" in Syria for the lack of much-needed international investment in its economy.

Lebanon army seizes Hezbollah's ammunition after clashes leave 2 dead

11 August 2023; MEMO: The Lebanese army confiscated a load of ammunition that was in a Hezbollah truck that overturned on Wednesday on a public road in a town near Beirut after an armed clash resulted in the killing of a Hezbollah member and another armed resident of the town, the army said yesterday.

The army has opened an investigation into the incident that occurred in the town of Kahaleh, The ammunition was moved to a military centre.

Jordan, Rwanda Ink Deal To Waive Visa Requirements On Regular Passports

AMMAN, Aug 10 (NNN-PETRA) – Jordan and Rwanda, yesterday, signed an agreement exempting ordinary passport holders in both countries from visa requirements.

The agreement was signed in the Jordanian capital, Amman, during the second round of strategic dialogue between the two countries, according to the report.

Israel's El Al in talks to buy Airbus jets in potentially historic shift

TEL AVIV, Aug 10 (Reuters) - El Al Israel Airlines (ELAL.TA) is in "serious" talks with planemaker Airbus (AIR.PA) to buy as many as 30 A321neo jets, El Al's CEO said on Thursday, in what would be an historic change of supplier as it looks to replace its short-haul fleet.

Israel's flag carrier is also in talks with traditional supplier Boeing (BA.N) to buy 737 MAX aircraft, Dina Ben Tal Ganancia told Reuters on the sidelines of a conference after El Al issued quarterly results and as it celebrated 20 years of being traded on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange after privatisation.

Iran, South Africa hold joint economic commission meeting after 3-year hiatus

TEHRAN, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Iran and South Africa on Thursday convened the 15th session of the Joint Commission of Economic Cooperation in South Africa's administrative capital Pretoria, after a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Iran's official news agency IRNA reported.

During the meeting, Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and South Africa's Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Naledi Pandor inked a document on economic cooperation, according to the report.

Iranian FM rejects claims of providing Iranian drones to Russia

TEHRAN, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian rejected on Thursday again claims that Tehran has provided drones to Russia for use against Ukraine, Iran's official news agency IRNA reported.

He made the remarks at a joint press conference with his South African counterpart Naledi Pandor in South Africa's administrative capital Pretoria.

He said Iran has held several rounds of consultations with the Ukrainian side on the issue, during which Ukraine failed to present "any valid evidence."

Houthi gov't warns US Navy of 'costliest war ever' if it gets too close to Yemen's waters
