Qatar appoints its first ambassador to UAE since 2017

24 July 2023; MEMO: Qatar on Sunday announced the appointment of its first ambassador to the United Arab Emirates in more than six years after the UAE, along with Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, severed ties with Doha in 2017.

The Emir of Qatar appointed Dr Sultan Salmeen Saeed Al Mansouri as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United Arab Emirates.

Israel army chief calls for stopping attacks on army troops

25 July 2023; MEMO: Chief of Staff of Israeli Army Herzi Halevi yesterday called for stopping attacks on Israeli troops who protest against the government's planned judicial overhaul, Hebrew media reported.

During a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Halevi said members of the coalition should stop "disparaging" pilots as they have been doing.

Iran Kicked Off Large-Scale Air Drill In Central Province

TEHRAN, Jul 24 (NNN-IRNA) – The Iranian Army’s Air Force, kicked off a large-scale air drill in the central province of Isfahan yesterday.

Troops from all air bases of the Air Force joined the military exercise, which is codenamed the 11th Fadaeian-e Harim-e Velayat (11th Devotees of Velayat Airspace), Hamid Vahedi, commander-in-chief of the air force, was quoted as saying, at a press conference held before the beginning of the exercise.

UAE Pledges 100 Million USD To Support Countries Affected By Irregular Migration

DUBAI, Jul 24 (NNN-WAM) – The United Arab Emirates (UAE), yesterday, promised to contribute 100 million U.S. dollars, to support development projects in countries affected by irregular migration.

UAE President, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, made the announcement at the International Conference on Development and Migration, which took place in Italy’s capital, Rome.

Focusing on the challenges presented by irregular migration, the meeting emphasised the urgent need for integrated solutions to address its root causes.

Jordan, Syria Discuss Joint Efforts To Combat Cross-Border Drug Trafficking

AMMAN, Jul 24 (NNN-PETRA) – Jordan and Syria, yesterday, held a meeting in Amman, to discuss cooperation, to prevent drug smuggling across the Syrian borders into Jordan.

The meeting, also the inaugural meeting of the Jordanian-Syrian Joint Committee for Combating Drug Smuggling, focused on the pressing threats posed by drug trafficking to the entire region.

Jordan and Syria agreed to form the joint committee, during the visit of Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi to Syria, on Jul 3.

Israel passes contested curbs on some Supreme Court powers

JERUSALEM, July 24 (Reuters) - Israel's parliament on Monday ratified the first bill of a judicial overhaul sought by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, after last-gasp compromise efforts collapsed and failed to ease a constitutional crisis convulsing the country for months.

The amendment to a law enabling the Supreme Court to void some government decisions if it deemed them "unreasonable" passed by a 64-to-0 vote after opposition lawmakers abandoned the session in protest, some of them shouting: "For shame!"
