Israel's withdrawal from Jenin a 'declaration of failure': Hamas

06 July 2023; MEMO: The Palestinian resistance movements Hamas and Islamic Jihad yesterday said they considered the Israeli occupation army's withdrawal from the city of Jenin and its refugee camp in the northern occupied West Bank a "declaration of failure" and a sign of victory for the Palestinians, Anadolu reported.

This came in separate statements issued by the two movements this morning after the military operation came to an end.

The protest was called by the Palestinian Forum in Britain, the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC), Stop the War Coalition, Friends of Al-Aqsa and the Muslim Association of Britain (MAB).

Israeli Officer Killed In Exchange Of Fire With Palestinian Militants

JERUSALEM, Jul 5 (NNN-MA’AN) – An Israeli officer was killed, in an exchange of fire with Palestinian militants in the Jenin area, in the occupied West Bank yesterday, amid Israel’s large-scale raid on the occupied territory.

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) confirmed in a statement that, one of its troops was killed by gunfire in the Jenin refugee camp. “A non-commissioned officer in combat service was killed by live fire during the operation against terrorist infrastructure in the Jenin Camp,” the statement read.

The ministry denounced in a statement Israel's excessive use of force against Palestinian civilians, while urging the international community and the United Nations Security Council "to shoulder their responsibilities and enforce relevant resolutions to end the continued Israeli terrorism and protect the Palestinian people."

Israel ends West Bank raid calling it a blow to militants. Palestinians grapple with destruction

JENIN REFUGEE CAMP, West Bank (AP) — Israel withdrew troops from a West Bank militant stronghold Wednesday but warned that its most intense military operation in the occupied territory in nearly two decades was not a one-off. Twelve Palestinians and an Israeli soldier were killed in the two-day raid.

Residents of the Jenin refugee camp emerged from their homes to find alleys lined by piles of rubble and flattened or scorched cars. Shopkeepers and bulldozers started clearing the debris. Thousands who had fled the fighting began returning.
