US, Iranian officials hold indirect meetings in Oman

10 June 2023; MEMO: American and Iranian officials held indirect talks in Oman last month, Israeli journalist Barak Ravid reported to American news website Axios on Friday.

Ravid reported from three sources saying that the two sides sat in separate rooms and exchanged messages through Omani officials.

Iran, Türkiye Vowed To Continue Military Cooperation

TEHRAN, Jun 9 (NNN-IRNA) – Iran and Türkiye yesterday, highlighted the need to continue cooperation between their armed forces, to improve bilateral military relations.

This came as Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Mohammad Baqeri, held a phone talk with new Turkish Defence Minister, Yasar Guler, the report said.

Baqeri described Iran and Türkiye as two “good and strategic” neighbours, that have a common border of “peace and friendship.”

Syria committed to restore industry to pre-war level: minister

DAMASCUS, Jun 9 (NNN-SANA) – Syria’s Industry Minister, Abdul Qader Jokhadar, vowed to restore the country’s industry to levels before the 12-year-war, the pro-government al-Watan online daily, reported yesterday.

He said that, the government is aware of the importance of the industrial sector and its contribution to boosting the national economy, vowing the status of the Syrian industry would be restored to what it used to be before the eruption of the Syrian war.

Russian citizen killed in shark attack in Egypt

June 8 (Reuters) - A Russian citizen was killed in a shark attack near a beach at the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Hurghada, Russia's Consulate General in the city and two Egyptian security sources said on Thursday.

Egypt's Environment Ministry said in a statement posted on Facebook that a tiger shark was responsible for the death of a beachgoer, without giving details of the victim.

Israeli army fires tear gas at Lebanese protesters against border bulldozing work

BEIRUT, June 9 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli army on Friday attacked with tear gas Lebanese citizens in the border villages of Kfarchouba and al-Arqoub, who were demonstrating against Israel's bulldozing work on their lands, Elnashra news website reported.

Scores of Lebanese residents from Kfarchouba, Shebaa, al-Arqoub, Kfarhamam and other villages held a sit-in against the Israeli move, calling on the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) to end Israeli violations of Lebanon's sovereignty.

Sudan’s government declares UN envoy no longer welcome; warring sides agree to 24-hour cease-fire

CAIRO (AP) — The Sudanese government announced that the U.N. envoy to the country and key mediator in its brutal conflict is no longer welcome as the warring sides in the African nation agreed to a new, 24-hour cease-fire.

Sudan’s Foreign Ministry issued a terse statement late Thursday, weeks after the military chief, Gen. Abdel Fattah Burhan, demanded in a letter that envoy Volker Perthes be removed from his post. The ministry said U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres was notified that Perthes was declared persona non grata by Sudan.

Iran President to visit three Latin American countries next week

08 June 2023; MEMO: Iranian President, Ebrahim Raisi, will visit Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela next week, Iran's state news agency, IRNA, announced on Wednesday, adding that the upcoming tour stemmed from invites from the presidents of each of the Latin American nations, Reuters reports.
