Greek PM says migrant 'push back' inquiry underway

25 May 2023; MEMO: The Greek government is investigating claims of migrant push backs at the Aegean Sea following the emergence of video footage showing Greek coastguard units forcefully putting migrants on a black inflatable life raft and setting them adrift, Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis said, AFP reports.

Turkiye's exports to Saudi at $780m in 4 months

25 May 2023; MEMO: Turkish exports to Saudi Arabia amounted to $780.5 million in the first four months of the year, making up about one per cent of the country's total exports according to Anadolu Agency, which cited data by the Turkish Exporters Council.

Saudi is 22nd largest importer of Turkish goods.

Carpets topped the Turkish products exported to Saudi Arabia, at $109 million, followed by grains and legumes at $81 million, then chemicals at $77 million.

Iran warns Israel against attacks on its nuclear facilities

25 May 2023; MEMO: An Iranian official on Tuesday warned Israel against attacking Tehran's nuclear facilities, noting such a move would lead to a war.

Speaking to Al Jazeera, the Iranian official said: "We do not seek war, but the world must understand we have lines, that there are no red lines when it comes to our response to Israel."

Turkish opposition believed to be behind anti-Syria refugee video game

25 May 2023; MEMO: As part of racist electoral campaigns being witnessed in Turkiye ahead of Sunday's presidential election, Gacrux Game Studio launched the Zafer Tourism game, which is named after the extremist Turkish Zafer (Victory) Party.

The game, available on smartphones, focuses on throwing refugees who are trying to enter an unspecified country into trucks to take them back to the country they came from.

Sudan crisis: Sporadic shelling as combat eases after ceasefire

KHARTOUM, May 24 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Sporadic artillery fire still echoed in Sudan’s capital Tuesday but residents said fighting had calmed following a US and Saudi-brokered ceasefire, raising faint hopes in the embattled city.

The truce, to allow desperately needed humanitarian aid for civilians, took effect Monday night only to be quickly marred by more gunshots and blasts.

Lebanon’s Central Bank To Issue Large-Denomination Banknotes

BEIRUT, May 24 (NNN-NNA) – Large-denomination banknotes of 500,000 and 1,000,000 Lebanese pounds (LBP), will likely be issued soon in Lebanon, local media reported, yesterday.

A joint session of parliamentary committees, yesterday approved a bill, permitting Banque Du Liban (BDL), Lebanon’s central bank, to issue notes worth more than 100,000 LBP in denomination.

If the bill is passed in parliament, notes worth 500,000 and 1,000,000 LBP will be printed, said the report.

Iran denies western media's claim over building nuclear facility

TEHRAN, May 24 (Xinhua) -- The Iranian nuclear chief on Wednesday denied The Associated Press's claim that Iran is building a nuclear facility "so deep in the earth," Iranian Students' News Agency reported.

"Iran is working according to the regulations of the International Atomic Energy Agency and the safeguards agreements and whenever it plans to carry out any activity, it informs the agency of the arrangements and acts based on them," President of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Mohammad Eslami told reporters on the sidelines of a cabinet meeting.
