India: Man held for resorting to supari killing of woman in Kanpur

Kanpur: A married man was arrested for allegedly resorting to the supari killing of his lover, a resident of the Gujaini locality here. She insisted on marriage and sharing in the property.

It was reported that Sushila ran an affair with Prem, already married. When she insisted on marriage, the latter took it otherwise and hatched a conspiracy with his associates to kill her.

India: Kanpur will no longer elect woman mayor following new formula

Kanpur: The city's mayor seat will no longer be reserved for the woman candidate. This has been made clear with the fresh formula on reservations in the urban local bodies elections.

Now, the reservation will be about 35% of the 17 posts for women candidates.

The unreserved mayoral seats include Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Bareilly, Shahjahanpur, Firozabad and Ghaziabad.

Six mayoral seats have been reserved for women. Three of these are for women of the general category and three for women of the reserved category.

Tehran, Moscow Developed Mechanisms To Boost Ties: Iranian Official

TEHRAN, Dec 5 (NNN-IRNA) – A senior Iranian diplomat said yesterday that, Tehran and Moscow have developed frameworks and mechanisms, for improving bilateral relations.

Ali Bagheri Kani, Iran’s deputy foreign minister for political affairs, made the remarks, following his meetings with Russian officials in Moscow.

He noted that “the two sides reviewed bilateral relations over the past months, and created frameworks and mechanisms in agreement with each other, for developing relations.”

Moroccans protest price hikes and ‘repression’

RABAT, Dec 5 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Protesters turned out in force to march in Morocco’s capital Rabat Sunday to denounce the “high cost of living and repression”, amid surging inflation and rising social discontent.

“The people want lower prices… The people want to eliminate despotism and corruption,” chanted the crowd, estimated by journalists to be around 3,000 people, the largest such rally in recent months.

Police put the turnout at between 1,200 and 1,500 people.

Palestine To Attend Meeting Of Assembly Of States Parties Of ICC: Official

RAMALLAH, Dec 5 (NNN-WAFA) – Palestine is to attend a meeting of the Assembly of States Parties of the International Criminal Court (ICC), scheduled for today in The Hague, a senior Palestinian official announced yesterday.

Palestinian Foreign Minister, Riyad Al-Maliki, told the official Voice of Palestine radio that, he will deliver a speech at the assembly, and meet other officials in The Hague, to discuss the Israeli escalation against the Palestinians in the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem.

Israeli intelligence general sees Iran regime surviving protests

JERUSALEM, Dec 5 (Reuters) - A top Israeli intelligence analyst said on Monday that Iran's clerical rulers were likely to survive protests that have swept the country for weeks, and predicted they could stay in power for years to come.

"The repressive Iranian regime will, it seems, manage to survive these protests. It has constructed very, very strong tools for dealing with such protests," Brigadier-General Amit Saar told the military intelligence think-tank Gazit Institute.

Algeria, Jordan sign 5 agreements to strengthen ties

ALGIERS, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Algeria and Jordan signed five agreements on Sunday in a ceremony co-chaired by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and visiting King Abdullah II of Jordan in the capital Algiers.

The agreements included a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on bilateral political consultations, an agreement on the mutual visa exemption for holders of diplomatic passports and a MoU between the two countries' diplomatic institutes.

Iran accuses Western officials of "false human rights gestures"

TEHRAN, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman on Sunday condemned officials of some Western countries for making "false human rights gestures" by "dividing terrorism into good and bad."

Nasser Kanaani made the remarks on his Twitter account after posting a screenshot of a Sky News report on Thursday that British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak promised to give the British police new powers to clamp down on "illegal protests."

Sudanese generals, pro-democracy group sign framework deal

KHARTOUM, Sudan (AP) — Sudan’s ruling generals and the main pro-democracy group on Monday signed a framework deal meant to help resolve the country’s crisis and take it to the next elections. However, key dissenters, including some rebel groups and reformists have stayed out of the agreement.

The deal pledges to establish a new, civilian-led transitional government to guide the country to elections and offers a path forward in the wake of Sudan’s stalled transition to democracy following the October 2021 coup.
