Palestine: Illegal Israeli settlers form 'militia' in occupied West Bank

21 Sep 2022; MEMO: Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank have apparently formed a militia to carry out night operations against the Palestinians, the official Kan broadcaster has reported. The so-called "Civil Guard", it is claimed, will help the Israel occupation army.

Settlers launched a night patrol on Route 60 on Monday night. The road passes through the Palestinian town of Hawara, south of Nablus.

Iran rejects US call for accountability following woman's death in custody

21 Sep 2022; MEMO: Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said yesterday that Tehran is investigating the death of a 22-year-old woman in police custody, and rejected American calls for accountability, Anadolu news agency reported.

In a post on Twitter, Abdollahian described Mahsa Amini's death as "tragic" and said she was "just like our own daughters".

Algeria launches bid for UN Security Council

22 Sep 2022; MEMO: Algeria yesterday launched a campaign to promote its candidacy for a non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council for the term 2024-2025.

Elections are due to be held during the 77th General Assembly session in June 2023.

This came amid increasing demands for reforming the Security Council and breaking major countries' influence over its decisions.

Israel: Netanyahu accuses Lapid of surrendering to Hezbollah over Karish gas field

22 Sep 2022; MEMO: Benjamin Netanyahu accused Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid yesterday of surrendering to threats made by Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah concerning the disputed Karish gas field in the Mediterranean Sea.

"Lapid totally folded in the face of Nasrallah's threats," said the Israeli opposition leader on Twitter. "He wants to hand over the gas to Lebanon, a gas field worth billions of dollars." Netanyahu claimed that Nasrallah will sell the gas and buy rockets.

Palestine: 74% of Palestinians do not want Abbas as president; Poll

22 Sep 2022; MEMO: Three-quarters of Palestinians do not want Palestinian Authority (PA), Fatah and PLO President Mahmoud Abbas as their president, Al-Resalah newspaper reported yesterday.

According to the news site, the poll was conducted between 13-17 September, ahead of Abbas' speech before the UN General Assembly this week.

It found that 26 per cent of the respondents are content with Abbas, while 71 per cent are not.

Palestine Condemns Israel’s Decision To Deduct Tax Revenue Dues

RAMALLAH, Sept 21 (NNN-WAFA) – Palestine, yesterday, condemned the Israeli decision to deduct 2.9 million U.S. dollars from the Palestinian tax revenue dues that Israel collects, on behalf of the Palestinian Authority (PA).

On Monday, Israeli Defence Minister, Benny Gantz, signed an order to deduct 2.9 million U.S. dollars from the Palestinian tax revenue dues. The sum is transferred by the PA to Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, according to Israeli media reports.
