21 May 2022; MEMO: The Algerian state-owned oil company Sonatrach announced on Thursday that it signed a contract with a Chinese factory to build a petrochemical plant in the state of Oran, at a value of 76 billion Algerian dinars ($542 million).
Sonatrach confirmed in a statement that the plant would produce methyl tert-butyl ether, which is added to the fuel to improve its quality and obtain unleaded gasoline.
JERUSALEM (AP) — Israeli troops shot and killed a teenage Palestinian boy as clashes erupted when they entered a volatile town in the occupied West Bank early Saturday, the Palestinian health ministry and local media said.
There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military, which has intensified overnight raids in the northern West Bank town of Jenin in recent months.
The ministry identified the dead teen as Amjad al-Fayyed, 17. It said an 18-year-old Palestinian was in critical condition after being wounded by Israeli gunfire.
TEHRAN, May 20 (NNN-IRNA) – If the United States acts “logically,” an agreement in the Vienna talks on the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal will be within reach, Iranian Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir Abdollahian said, yesterday.
Amir Abdollahian made the remarks in a phone conversation with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, calling on the other sides in the Vienna talks, to put forward their initiatives to this end, according to the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s website.
BEIRUT, May 20 (NNN-NNA) – The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), yesterday called on Lebanon and Israel, to use the tripartite meetings, to find win-win solutions to the contentious issues along their border.
A tripartite meeting was held yesterday in Ras Al Naqoura, Lebanon, which was attended by the UNIFIL, as well as, senior military officers from Lebanon and Israel.
Aroldo Lazaro Saenz, the UNIFIL head, said, “The tripartite meeting is underscored by the UN Security Council as a vital tool to defuse tensions and avoid miscalculations.”
AMMAN, May 19 (Reuters) - Jordan's King Abdullah said on Thursday he was restricting the movements of his estranged half brother Prince Hamza and curtailing his contacts with the outside world to ensure he does not act against his country's interests.
Hamza, a former heir to Jordan's throne who was placed under house arrest last year, was accused in April 2021 of trying to destabilise the monarchy in a foreign-inspired plot, but was spared punishment after pledging allegiance to the King.
ADEN, Yemen, May 20 (Xinhua) -- The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Yemen said that it facilitated the return of 300 Ethiopian migrants from Yemen to their country this week.
"This week, IOM helped 300 Ethiopian migrants embark on two Voluntary Humanitarian Return (VHR) flights," the UN migration agency said in a tweet on Thursday.
The VHR flights are "the only safe and dignified pathway for migrants in Yemen to return home," IOM said, adding the program is a lifeline for migrants struggling to survive amid conflict.
CAIRO (AP) — Egyptian authorities have transferred a prominent political activist from a maximum-security prison where he was allegedly tortured and denied basic rights to a new correctional facility, his family said on Thursday.
Alaa Abel-Fattah was transferred from Cairo’s Tora prison complex to Wadi El-Natrun prison in the north of the country, where he was visited on Thursday by his family, his sister Mona Seif wrote on Twitter.
19 May 2022; MEMO: The United States will reduce its aid to Tunisia after its government's "deviation from democracy," the chief of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Samantha Power, warned yesterday.
"Tunisia will receive less money in the 2023 budget," Power told Congress, noting that the move had come after what it described as the Tunisian government's repression of the civil society and violation of the supremacy of law and democratic standards.

The relevant authorities, it is alleged, have not addressed and dealt with the issue.
19 May 2022; MEMO: Military Police with the Israel Defence Forces will not open an investigation into the killing of Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, 51, in Jenin last week, despite her being shot in the head by an army sniper, Haaretz has reported. The Military Police Criminal Investigation Division believes that an investigation that treats Israeli soldiers as suspects will lead to opposition within Israeli society.
