Israel: Shin Bet warns government about surge in settler violence in occupied West Bank

30 October 2023; MEMO: Israel’s Shin Bet domestic intelligence agency has expressed its concerns to the government about the surge in settler violence against the Palestinians in the occupied West Bank since the start of the current conflict on 7 October.

According to Channel 12, the head of Shin Bet, Ronen Bar, has notified the Israeli war cabinet, broader cabinet and the defence establishment regarding this issue.

Hezbollah says it downed Israel drone in south Lebanon

30 October 2023; MEMO: Lebanon’s Hezbollah said, on Sunday, it shot down an Israeli drone over southern Lebanon with a surface-to-air missile, the first time it has announced such an incident, as clashes on the Lebanese border escalate, Reuters reports.

The drone was hit near Khiam, about 5 km (3 miles) from the border with Israel, and was seen falling in Israeli territory, Hezbollah added. Two security sources in Lebanon said it was the first time Hezbollah had announced downing an Israeli drone.

Israel recalls diplomats from Turkiye

30 October 2023; MEMO: Israel has recalled diplomats from Turkiye after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan criticised it of behaving like a “war criminal”, local Turkish media reports.

According to the report, Erdogan made the comments while addressing thousands of demonstrators at a pro-Palestinian rally in Istanbul.

The Israeli Foreign Minister, Eli Cohen, responded by ordering diplomats to return.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel has “the most moral army in the world”.

Türkiye condemns attack on Turkish-funded hospital in Gaza

ANKARA, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Türkiye's Foreign Ministry condemned on Monday "in the strongest terms" what it said was an Israeli attack on the Turkish-Palestinian Friendship Hospital in Gaza.

"There can be no justification for such an attack on the only cancer hospital in Gaza, since all necessary information, including the coordinates of the institution in question, was shared with the Israeli authorities in advance," the ministry said in a statement.

Israeli airstrikes severely damaged the Turkish-funded hospital, according to the Palestinian health authorities in Gaza.

Israel army claims to free one female soldier held in Gaza

30 October 2023; MEMO: The Israeli army, on Monday, claimed that its forces had managed to free one Israeli female soldier held by the Palestinian group, Hamas, in Gaza, Anadolu Agency reports.

In a joint statement, the Israeli army and general security service (Shin Bet) identified the soldier as Ori Megidish and claimed to have rescued her during an overnight military operation.

U.S. strikes trucks on Syrian-Iraqi border

DAMASCUS, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- U.S. airstrikes hit truckloads of construction materials on the Syrian-Iraqi border early Monday, followed by retaliatory shelling on a U.S. military base in Syria's eastern province of Deir al-Zour, media reports said.

According to the Lebanese al-Mayadeen TV, seven trucks transporting construction materials were targeted by U.S. bombings in eastern Syria, near the border with Iraq.

Israeli tanks roll into southern outskirts of Gaza City, clash with Hamas militants

GAZA/JERUSALEM, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Israeli tanks rolled into the southern outskirts of Gaza City on Monday, clashing with Hamas fighters who tried to stop their advance, Palestinian security sources and eyewitnesses said.

The sources said dozens of Israeli army vehicles crossed from the eastern parts of the Gaza Strip and reached the main Salah al-Din road, cutting off Gaza City from the cental part of the territory.

The sources said explosions were heard as the Israeli forces and Palestinian militants exchanged fire near the incursion area.

Preventing aid supplies to Gaza may be crime under ICC jurisdiction, warns top prosecutor

31 October 2023; MEMO: Obstructing relief supplies to the Gaza Strip may constitute a crime under the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) jurisdiction, the body’s top prosecutor has warned.

Speaking to a news conference in Egypt on Sunday, the ICC’s top prosecutor Karim Khan told Israel that it must make “discernable efforts, without further delay to make sure civilians receive basic foods, medicine.”
