Virginia police: Multiple people killed in Walmart shooting

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (AP) — Multiple people are dead and others are wounded after a shooting at a Virginia Walmart on Tuesday night, police said.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting at the Walmart on Sam’s Circle around 10:15 p.m. and as soon as they arrived they found evidence of a shooting, Chesapeake police spokesman Leo Kosinski said in a briefing.

Over 35 to 40 minutes, officers found multiple dead people and injured people in the store and put rescue and tactical teams together to go inside and provide life-saving measures, he said.

UNGA adopts Pakistan-steered resolution on strengthening UN-OIC ties

Divided UN Security Council condemns North Korean missiles

UNITED NATIONS, Nov 22 (NNN-AGENCIES) — UN Security Council members slammed North Korea’s intercontinental ballistic missile launch Monday but stopped short of issuing a formal statement due to opposition from China and Russia, diplomats said.
 
   The United States, Britain, France and India were among 14 nations to “strongly condemn” Friday’s launch, which landed about 200 kilometers from Japan’s coastline.
 
   The missile appeared to be nuclear-armed North Korea’s newest ICBM with the potential range to hit the US mainland.
 

USA: Biden approves emergency declaration for New York state after historic snowfall

WASHINGTON, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- The White House said on Monday that U.S. President Joe Biden had approved an emergency declaration for the state of New York after historic snowfall.

Biden, according to the White House, had also ordered federal assistance to supplement state and local response efforts to address the aftermath of a severe winter storm and snowstorm.

Additionally, the federal government named a coordinating officer for federal recovery operations in areas affected by the storm.

Homicide rate of Indigenous victims disproportionally high in Canada: statistics

OTTAWA, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- The national homicide rate in Canada rose by 3 percent in 2021 with that of Indigenous victims remaining disproportionally high, Statistics Canada revealed Monday.

According to the national statistical agency, in 2021, police services reported 788 homicides in Canada. This represented 29 additional homicides compared with the previous year and a third consecutive increase since 2019. Consequently, the national homicide rate rose to 2.06 homicides per 100,000 population, compared with 2020.

UN chief appoints new resident coordinator for Central African Republic

UNITED NATIONS, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Monday announced the appointment of Mohamed Ag Ayoya of Mali as the new resident coordinator for the Central African Republic.

The resident coordinator is the highest-ranking representative of the UN development system at the country level.

USA ‘It’s the reflex’: Veteran helped disarm gunman at gay club

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — When army veteran Rich Fierro realized a gunman was spraying bullets inside the club where he had gathered with friends and family, instincts from his military training immediately kicked in.

First he ducked to avoid any potential incoming fire, then moved to try to disarm the shooter.

“It’s the reflex. Go! Go to the fire. Stop the action. Stop the activity. Don’t let no one get hurt. I tried to bring everybody back,” he said Monday outside his home.

Sunday’s agreement at COP27 Climate Summit in Egypt to establish Loss and Damage fund to help poor nations being battered by climate disasters.

“A momentous win for Pakistan and the developing countries,” Ambassador Akram said, when asked for comments by APP correspondent.

He called the agreement the “fruits of political clarity, unity, and perseverance.”

Trump snubs Twitter after Musk announces reactivation of ex-president's account

Nov 19 (Reuters) - Donald Trump on Saturday said he had no interest in returning to Twitter even as a slim majority voted in favor of reinstating the former U.S. president, who was banned from the social media service for inciting violence, in a poll organized by new owner Elon Musk.

Slightly over 15 million Twitter users voted in the poll with 51.8% voting in favor of reinstatement.

"The people have spoken. Trump will be reinstated," Musk tweeted.
