Five Arab Foreign Ministers arrive in Russia for talks on Ukraine war

04 April 2022; MEMO: Five Arab Foreign Ministers have travelled to the Russian capital, Moscow, to hold talks with Russia's top diplomat on the war in Ukraine, the Arab League said in a statement.

According to the statement, the Foreign Ministers of Egypt, Algeria, Iraq, Jordan and Sudan are scheduled to meet on Monday with Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov.  The Arab League Secretary-General, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, is also scheduled to join the meeting.

Morocco to increase number of direct flights from Israel

05 April 2022; MEMO: The Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) has revealed that it is planning to bring 200,000 Israeli tourists to Morocco on direct flights from Tel Aviv in 2022, Sama news agency reported yesterday.

Quoting i24Sama said the number of direct flights between the two countries will rise to eight per week.

Iraq: Highest oil export revenues in 50 years

Iraq's Oil Ministry exported $11.07 billion worth of oil in March, the highest level in 50 years, as crude oil prices soared in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The ministry said in a statement that it had exported 3.244 million barrels per day, at an average price of more than $110 in March, achieving the highest revenues since 1972.

According to the statement, 99.11 million barrels of crude oil were exported from oil fields in central and southern Iraq, while 1.4 million barrels were exported from the Kirkuk fields through Ceyhan port.

Jordan: popular 'Russia solidarity' committee launched

04 April 2022; MEMO: A group of individuals and organisations in Jordan announced the launch of the Jordanian People's Committee for Solidarity with Russia yesterday, RIA Novosti has reported.

The committee was created "after several meetings and discussions to counter "imperialist ambitions, strengthen the independence of Jordan and develop Jordanian-Russian" links and relations.

Sri Lanka blocks social media platforms after imposing emergency, curfew

Colombo, Apr 3 (PTI) The Sri Lankan government on Sunday blocked social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram after declaring a nationwide public emergency and imposing a 36-hour curfew ahead of a planned anti-government rally over the worst economic crisis in the island nation.

India: Talks of stagflation 'overhyped': Niti Aayog VC

New Delhi, Apr 3 (PTI) India is on the cusp of a major economic recovery and talks of possible stagflation are "overhyped" as a strong economic foundation is being laid with the reforms carried out by the government over the last seven years, Niti Aayog Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar said on Sunday.

Notwithstanding economic uncertainties triggered by the Russia-Ukraine war that is also impacting global supply chains, Kumar asserted that it was quite clear from all accounts that India will remain the fastest growing economy in the world.

Iran to trade with Russia in national currencies to increase mutual trade

02 April 2022; MEMO: Iran has announced that it is willing to trade with Russia in national currencies, citing already existing deals and opportunities, Sputnik reported on Friday.

Sputnik reported Vice-Governor of Iranian Central Bank Mohsen Karimi confirming that both countries would use: "National currencies – the ruble and the toman – and agreements on this matter already exist."
