Kuwait bans entry of ships carrying goods to and from Israel

05 Dec 2021; MEMO: Kuwait has issued a decree banning the entry of commercial vessels carrying goods to and from Israel from its territorial waters.

The Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology, Rana Al-Faris, announced the ban yesterday.

Indian Rupee slumps 30 paise to close at 75.42 against dollar

Mumbai, Dec 6 (PTI) The rupee on Monday plunged 30 paise to settle at 75.42 (provisional) against the US dollar in line with massive erosion in domestic stocks as concerns over the new Omicron variant continued to weigh on sentiment.

Besides, rising crude prices in international markets and a surging greenback overseas also pulled the rupee back, traders said.

UAE's top security official to visit Iran on Monday

05 Dec 2021; MEMO: The United Arab Emirates' top national security adviser Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan will visit Iran on Monday to discuss expanding bilateral ties with the Islamic Republic, Iranian state media reported on Sunday, Reuters reported.

There was no immediate comment from the UAE foreign ministry about the visit of Sheikh Tahnoon, who is a brother of the country's de facto ruler Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed and chairman of state investor ADQ.

India to supply 20% more power to Bangladesh

Agartala, Dec 5 (PTI) India will supply 20 per cent more power to Bangladesh as the two countries renewed the contract for another five years, officials said on Sunday.

Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) will supply 192 mw power to Bangladesh, an increase from the earlier 160 mw it supplied, as per the renewed agreement.

'Organisation of Turkic States ready to establish ties with all nations'

New round of Vienna talks on Iran nuclear deal adjourned without breakthrough

03 Dec 2021; MEMO: The latest round of talks between Iran and other parties to the 2015 nuclear deal in Vienna ended on Friday without any significant breakthrough, Anadolu News Agency reports.

The parties — Iran and the P4+1 countries — are expected to reconvene in the Austrian capital next week after holding consultations in their respective capitals.

The decision was taken after a meeting of the joint commission of the nuclear deal, also known as the joint comprehensive plan of action (JCPOA), in the afternoon.

India: PepsiCo's IPR on FL-2027 potato variety revoked

New Delhi, Dec 3 (PTI) In a setback to PepsiCo India, the plant varieties protection authority PPV&FR on Friday revoked its varietal registration certificate which was granted to the food and beverages major on a potato variety 'FL-2027' in the country.

Reacting to the development, PepsiCo said it is in the process of reviewing the order passed by the Protection of Plant Varieties & Farmers' Rights (PPV&FR) Authority.

PPV&FR is a statutory body set up under the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers' Rights Act, 2001.

Turkish-Russian Foreign Ministers discuss bilateral ties, regional issues

02 Dec 2021; MEMO: Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu, on Thursday, discussed bilateral relations and regional challenges with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, in Stockholm, Sweden's capital, Anadolu News Agency reports.

Cavusoglu tweeted that he "discussed bilateral relations & regional issues including Syria, Libya, Ukraine & Caucasus" with Lavrov on the sidelines of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Ministerial Council meeting.

Businessman wants to give Turkish coffee the place it deserves

02 Dec 2021; MEMO: Just as there is World Coffee Day on 1 October, Turkey wants to turn 5 December into "World Turkish Coffee Day" by giving everyone at New York's Times Square a taste of the traditional beverage, said a Turkish businessperson, Anadolu News Agency reports.

Murat Kolbasi, Chairman of Arzum Electrical Home Appliances, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Turkish Coffee Culture and Research Association, told Anadolu Agency that coffee bean companies recognise Turkish coffee.
