New Delhi, Sep 17 (PTI) Australia on Friday said its decision to join a security alliance with the US and UK is aimed at developing capabilities that can contribute along with India and other countries in deterring behaviour that threatens the peace and security in the Indo-Pacific.

16 Sep 2021; MEMO: Hezbollah began bringing Iranian fuel into Lebanon via Syria today, a move the group says should ease a crippling energy crisis but which opponents say risks provoking US sanctions, Reuters reports.

Dozens of trucks carrying Iranian fuel oil entered northeastern Lebanon near the village of Al-Ain, where Hezbollah's yellow flag fluttered from lampposts.

"Thank you Iran. Thank you Assad's Syria," declared a banner, referring to Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad.

New Delhi, Sep 15 (PTI) Tata Sons -- the holding company of India's largest conglomerate -- on Wednesday submitted a financial bid to acquire loss-making state airline Air India.

Tuhin Kanta Pandey, secretary of the department that is running the privatisation process, tweeted of financial "bids" being received but did not say how many companies were in fray.

A Tata Sons spokesperson confirmed to PTI that the group has put in a bid for the national carrier.

Sohna (Haryana), Sep 16 (PTI) Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Thursday reviewed the progress of Delhi-Mumbai Expressway (DME), that is expected to halve the commute time between the national capital and the financial hub from nearly 24 hours to 12 hours.

The 8-lane expressway will cover Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.

Gadkari also said that to reduce traffic jam problem and air pollution problem in Delhi-NCR, the road ministry is working on 15 projects worth Rs 53,000 crore.

15 Sep 2021; MEMO: Passenger flights between Iran and Afghanistan resumed today, Iran's state-run Al-Alam TV channel reported.

According to Reuters, an Iranian Mahan Air plane landed in Kabul with 19 passengers on board, coming from the city of Mashhad today.

Regular passenger services to Kabul had stopped after the Taliban gained control of the Afghan capital last month.

15 Sep 2021; MEMO: EgyptAir is scheduled to operate four direct flights from Cairo to Tel Aviv every week from the beginning of October.

According to the Times of Israel, flights between the two cities are currently run by Air Sinai, in planes without the Egyptian flag.

14 Sep 2021; MEMO: Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett described his meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi as "very important and very good" before leaving the Red Sea resort city of Sharm Al-Sheikh to return to Israel yesterday.

"We discussed a number of issues concerning the state, security, and economic affairs, as well as ways to further deepen relations and boost the interests of both nations," explained Bennett. "Israel is beginning to open itself further to its regional neighbours."

14 Sep 2021; MEMO: Turkey began normalisation talks with Egypt, Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) spokesperson Omer Celik said in a press conference yesterday, the Anadolu Agency reports.

Celik stressed that there are important issues the two countries need to discuss and find solutions for, including developments in Libya, Syria, Iraq, Palestine, and the Eastern Mediterranean.

New Delhi, Sep 13 (PTI) IT major Infosys and Microsoft have entered into a multi-year strategic engagement with Ausgrid to accelerate the cloud transformation of the largest electricity distributor on Australia's east coast.

This programme will further Ausgrid's vision to connect communities and empower lives with a focus on affordability, reliability and sustainability, Infosys said in a regulatory filing on Monday.

13 Sep 2021; MEMO: Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid yesterday proposed a plan to defeat the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas in Gaza based on economic improvements.

In an address to the International Institute for Counter-Terrorism Conference, Lapid said: "We need to start a large, multiyear process of the economy for security."

He said that reoccupying Gaza or repeated Israeli offensives are not the best ways to deal with Gaza and neutralise Hamas and the other resistance groups.
