USA: In China strategy, Biden to meet with leaders of Australia, India, Japan

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden will meet on Friday with the leaders of Australia, India and Japan, a group central to his efforts to counter China’s growing military and economic power.

The White House said the virtual meeting of the countries known as the Quad would show the importance Biden placed on the Indo-Pacific region and focus on ways to fight the coronavirus, cooperate on economic growth and the climate crisis.

India: Mandhana-Bitthoor journey to end in12 minutes, Board's nod awaited

Kanpur: 8-km journey from Mandhana to Bitthoor on broad gauge track will be possible only after approval of the railway board. A MEMU train trial on the new rail line was completed in presence of Mohd Lateef Khan, CRS, Eastern Railways and DRM Ashutosh Pant here recently. 

A detailed report will soon be forwarded to the Railway Board for running of the train on this newly laid track.

Saudi sovereign fund signs $15bn loan with 17 international banks

11 Mar 2021; MEMO: Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund, the Public Investment Fund (PIF), announced yesterday that it had agreed to a $15 billion multi-currency revolving credit facility with 17 banks.

In a statement reported by news agencies, the PIF said that this load would give it access to extra capital that can be deployed quickly when needed.

U.S. may label Taiwan a currency manipulator, says central bank governor

TAIPEI (Reuters) - Taiwan central bank governor Yang Chin-long said on Thursday that the United States may label the island a currency manipulator as it has already met Washington’s three main criteria for making such a decision.

Yang, answering lawmaker questions in parliament, added that if this happens it would not be too serious and that there would be no immediate disadvantage for Taiwan and they did not expect to be subject to so-called “Section 301” measures that might lead to tariffs.

Egypt is doing everything possible to make Sinai safe for Israeli tourists

11 Mar 2021; MEMO: Israel's Minister of Intelligence has said that Egypt is doing everything possible to make Sinai safe for Israeli tourists, local media have reported. Eli Cohen made his comments during meetings with Egyptian Deputy Intelligence Minister Nasser Fahmi in the Sinai resort of Sharm El-Sheikh earlier this week.

France joins east Mediterranean gas forum

11 Mar 2021; MEMO: Egypt yesterday said that France would take part in the East Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF), adding that the United States will join as an observer.

"The fourth ministerial periodic meeting of the EMGF has seen France become a member and the US join as an observer," Egyptian Petroleum Minister, Tarek El-Molla, told reporters.

Inordinate delay in processing of H-4 work authorisation

Washington, Mar 9 (PTI) There has been inordinate delay in issuing of H-4 work authorisation permits to certain categories of spouses of those possessing H-1B foreign work visas, the most sought after among Indian IT professionals, a group of highly talented Indian women in the US has said.

An H-4 visa is issued by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to immediate family members (spouse and children under 21 years of age) of the H-1B visa holders, most of whom are Indian IT professionals.

India: Farmer unions call for Bharat bandh (clouser) on March 26

New Delhi, Mar 10 (PTI) Farmer unions on Wednesday called for a Bharat bandh on March 26, when their protest at Delhi's borders against the Centre's three new farm laws completes four months.

Farmer leader Buta Singh Burjgill said farmers along with trade unions will protest the hike in fuel prices and privatisation of railways on March 15.
