French and Russian leaders to hold video summit Friday

PARIS, June 25 (NNN-AGENCIES) — French President Emmanuel Macron will hold a videoconference with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Friday, with the coronavirus pandemic and the crises in Libya and Syria on their agenda, France announced Wednesday.

The situations in Iran and Ukraine will also be raised, as well as “cooperation in the fields of health and the environment” the French presidency said.

US sanctions five Iranian ship captains over Venezuela oil delivery

WASHINGTON, June 25 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The United States sanctioned five Iranian ship captains who delivered oil to Venezuela, as Washington ratcheted up pressure against President Nicolas Maduro, whose government it considers illegitimate.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that the Iranian-flagged oil tankers, which delivered some 1.5 million barrels of gasoline and oil to Venezuela in recent weeks, had been placed on the US Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) blacklist.

India: Cooperative banks to be brought under RBI supervision

New Delhi, Jun 24 (PTI) The government on Wednesday said all cooperative banks and multi-state cooperative banks will come under the supervision of the Reserve Bank of India, a development aimed at providing comfort to depositors of these banks.

Urban cooperative banks and multi-state cooperative banks will be brought under the RBI supervision process applicable to commercial banks, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar said while briefing media about the Cabinet decisions.

"Depositor will be assured his money is safe," he said.

UAE Oil Giant ADNOC Announces 20-Billion-USD Energy Infrastructure Deal

DUBAI, June 24 (NNN-WAM) – The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), announced on Tuesday that, it signed an agreement worth 20.7 billion U.S. dollars, with a consortium of investors and funds.

The consortium consists of some of the world’s leading infrastructure investors and operators, as well as, sovereign wealth and pension funds, including Global Infrastructure Partners, GIP; Brookfield Asset Management, Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund GIC; Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board, Ontario Teachers; NH Investment & Securities and Snam.

African Union suspends South Sudan over $9m membership debt

ADDIS ABABA, June 24 (NNN-AFRICANEWS) — The African Union (AU) has suspended South Sudan from the continental body over failure to honour its financial obligations over the past three years.

A letter from the country’s mission in Ethiopia to the Foreign Affairs Ministry confirmed the development saying the amount in question came up to over 9 million dollars. The Ministry had confirmed the suspension from the Addis Ababa-based body.

Pubs, restaurants and hotels to reopen as England eases social distancing

LONDON, June 24 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Prime Minister Boris Johnson said pubs, restaurants and hotels could reopen in England early next month, easing the coronavirus lockdown that has all but shut the economy.

In other signs of a gradual return to normal life, hairdressers will also open again, along with tourist attractions like theme parks, but nightclubs, indoor gyms, and swimming pools will have to stay closed.

Iran: Ties with UAE improving, ready for dialogue with Saudi Arabia

23 June 2020; MEMO: Iran said its relationship with the UAE has improved and it is ready for dialogue with Saudi Arabia, Al Jazeera reported a top Iranian military official saying yesterday.

The news channel reported Yahya Safavi, the adviser to the Iranian Supreme Leader for military affairs, saying: “Our relationship with the UAE has improved and Abu Dhabi’s attitudes towards us have changed.”
