Lavrov: US pressure undermined EU efforts to resolve crisis with Iran

7 Nov 2019; MEMO: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said yesterday that US pressure has undermined European efforts to resolve the crisis with Iran.

Speaking to reporters in Moscow, the Russian foreign minister urged Iran to fulfil its commitments under the agreement, but said that Tehran’s decision to scale back its obligation is “logical”.

‘Agreement reached’ on Ethiopia massive dam

WASHINGTON, Nov 7 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan have reached “an agreement” to work together to resolve the controversial filling and operation of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam along the River Nile, the three countries said in a joint statement

The US hosted the foreign ministers of the three nations to try and resolve the long running diplomatic row on the construction of the massive dam project being built in northern Ethiopia.

China, France reaffirm support of Paris climate agreement, call it ‘irreversible’

BEIJING, Nov 7 (NNN-AGENCIES) — French President Emmanuel Macron and Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday issued a joint statement reaffirming their strong support for the “irreversible” Paris Agreement on climate change, from which the U.S. announced its exit this week.

The two countries “reaffirm their strong support for the Paris Agreement, which they consider an irreversible process and a compass for strong action on the climate,” the statement said.

Japan’s Typhoon-Damaged Bullet Trains To Be Scrapped

TOKYO, Nov 7 (NNN-NHK) – All 10 Shinkansen bullet trains that were inundated at a train yard in the city of Nagano last month, by deadly Typhoon Hagibis, will be scrapped, operators said Wednesday, which means that a third of the trains, that run on the Hokuriku- Shinkansen line, will be unusable.

President of East Japan Railway, Yuji Fukasawa, said, the motors and braking systems under the floors were swamped by the typhoon and the damage was difficult to repair.

PLO Slams Israeli Cable Car Project In East Jerusalem

RAMALLAH, Palestine, Nov 7 (NNN-WAFA) – Member of Palestine Liberation Organisation executive committee, Hanan Ashrawi, slammed Israeli plan to build a cable car in East Jerusalem.

“The Israeli cable car project is an obscene violation of cultural, historical, spiritual, geographic demographic character of Jerusalem. It is also an illegal assault on the occupied Palestinian city & its people, who have been living there for centuries,” she said.

India: Assam minister moots strong partnership with Malaysia

German cabin crew kick off 'massive' Lufthansa strike

Frankfurt, Nov 7 (AFP) Tens of thousands of Lufthansa passengers faced disruptions Thursday as cabin crew in Germany kicked off a "massive" 48-hour walkout in the biggest escalation yet of a bitter row over pay and conditions.

The strike called by Germany's UFO flight attendants' union was scheduled to start at 2300 GMT on Wednesday and last until 2300 GMT on Friday.

Lufthansa said it was forced to scrap 700 flights on Thursday and some 600 the following day, warning that "around 180,000 passengers will be affected".

Air India employee unions to oppose privatisation plans

New Delhi, Nov 6 (PTI) Employee unions at Air India on Wednesday decided to oppose privatisation of the airline as there is still no clarity on various issues, including payment of salary arrears and pension, according to a union's representative.

The development comes at a time when the government is working on the final contours for the proposed disinvestment of loss-making Air India.

Indian investors ready for electrifying Tehran-Tabriz train

Tabriz, Nov 6, IRNA – Indian investors, visiting Rabe Rashidi of Innovation and Technology Exhibition (Rinotex), voiced their readiness for undertaking rail projects, especially electrifying Tabriz-Tehran train, said East Azarbaijan deputy governor general for coordinating developmental affairs on Tuesday.

Javad Rahmati told IRNA on Wednesday, "If the investors accept risk of investment, we are ready for cooperation with them based on build-operate-transfer (BOT)."

Russia urges US to stop illegal oil sanctions on Iran

Moscow, Nov 6, IRNA - Russian Permanent Representative to the Vienna-based international organizations called on The United States to stop illegal oil sanctions against Iran.

“In order to save #JCPOA all participants should fulfill their commitments- both nuclear and economic,” The Permanent Representative to the International Organizations in Vienna and the International Atomic Energy Agency Mikhail Ulyanov wrote on his Twitter account.

He added: “US in its turn should at least stop to interfere with illegal attempts to establish oil embargo.”
