India: Chidambaram slams state of economy

New Delhi, Nov 4 (PTI) Incarcerated Congress leader P Chidambaram on Monday referred to an editorial in the Economist magazine that said the Indian economy is "incompetently managed and doing badly".

The former finance minister, who is in jail for alleged corruption in the INX Media case, also said in a tweet that the magazine is read by the Fortune 500 companies that will invest in India.

"Read the Economist magazine of October 26. It is read by the Fortune 500 companies that must invest in India.

India: Oppn leaders meet today to discuss economic issues, RCEP

New Delhi, Nov 4 (PTI) Senior opposition leaders will assemble here on Monday afternoon to discuss the slide in the economy as well as the ongoing Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership negotiations in Bangkok and the agreement's implications for India.

UPA chairperson and Congress president Sonia Gandhi will lead the discussions at the meeting that comes ahead of the winter session of Parliament beginning November 18.

Unprecedented increase in buying real estate by Yemenis in Turkey

2 Nov 2019; MEMO: Official Turkish data has unveiled an unprecedented increase in the purchasing of real estate by Yemenis in Turkey in 2019, compared with 2015, Arabi21.com reported on Friday.

According to the data, Yemenis bought 170 homes between January and September in 2015, while they acquired 1,082 homes during the same period in 2019.

India's coal imports rise 9 pc to 127 MT in Apr-Sept

New Delhi, Nov 3 (PTI) India's coal imports increased by 9.3 per cent to 126.91 million tonnes (MT) in the first six months of the ongoing fiscal, industry data showed.

The country had imported 116.04 MT of coal in April-September period of FY 2018-19, according to a provisional compilation by mjunction services, based on monitoring of vessels' positions and data received from shipping companies.

UK’s Boris Johnson apologizes for missing Brexit deadline

LONDON (AP) — Britain’s election campaign heated up Sunday even before it officially started, with Prime Minister Boris Johnson saying he would apologize to Conservatives for failing to take the U.K. out of the European Union by Oct. 31 and Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage saying he won’t personally run for a seat in Parliament.

Johnson’s promise to have Britain leave the bloc by Oct. 31 had been his central platform in the party leadership competition that brought him to power in July.

Mumbai Airport To Be Partially Shut For Five Months Due To Rehabilitation, Re-Carpeting Work

MUMBAI, Nov 2 (NNN-PTI) – Mumbai airport runway will be partially closed for renovation, from Nov 4 till Mar for a major rehabilitation and re-carpeting work.

During this period, the shorter secondary runway will be available for normal flight operations, said the statement, issued by the airport.

“As per the revised date, RWY 09/27 will not be available for aircraft operations from Nov 4, 2019, up to Mar 28, 2020, from Mondays to Saturdays, between 09:30 to 17:30 (local time),” said the statement.

Morocco, Italy Sign Strategic Partnership Declaration

RABAT, Nov 2 (NNN-MAP) – Morocco and Italy signed a declaration of multidimensional strategic partnership, in the Moroccan capital, Rabat.

The two sides expressed their determination to preserve and consolidate the level of relations they’ve achieved in the declaration, which was signed by Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita and his Italian counterpart, Luigi di Maio.

The declaration reaffirmed the commitment of both parties “to strengthen political dialogue and integration process, with the European Union.”
