Bangladesh Poverty Rate Falls By 50 Percent In 10 Years

DHAKA, Bangladesh, Aug 28 (NNN-BSS) – Bangladeshi Foreign Minister, AK Abdul Momen, said the government successfully reduced the poverty rate by 50 percent, in the last 10 years.

“Bangladesh is one of the two countries in the world, where poverty rate has declined the most,” Momen was quoted as saying, in a report on Tuesday.

Momen made the remarks, while speaking at a programme in Dhaka, marking the country’s National Mourning Day, and 44th martyrdom anniversary of the Father of the Bangladeshi Nation, Bangabandhu, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Maldives to interconnect and develop all the islands

MALE, Maldives, Aug 28 (NNN-PSM) – The Maldivian government, on Tuesday said, it will begin to interconnect and develop all the islands in the country, in order to boost the economy of these local islands.

Planning Minister, Mohamed Aslam, speaking in parliament, said that, the government will develop all the islands under the country’s National Development Plan.

Malaysia Airports not ruling out malicious action as cause for disruption in KLIA services

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 26 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has not ruled out the possibility that the recent network failure, which resulted in a systems disruption at the KL International Airport, was caused by an act of malicious intent.

“Nevertheless, we will put this in the hands of the authorities to do a full investigation on the matter,” the airport operator said in a statement today.

It also said the network was “stabilising well.” 

Indonesia’s State Oil, Gas Firm Registers 112 Percent Profit Growth In H1

JAKARTA, Indonesia, Aug 27 (NNN-ANTARA) – Indonesia’s state-run oil and gas firm, Pertamina, saw an enormous net profit growth of 112 percent to 9.4 trillion rupiah (about 660 million U.S. dollars), in the first half of this year, a Pertamina executive said.

Pertamina Finance Director, Pahala Mansury, said, the net profit growth figure came up from six percent Cost of Goods Sold (CoGS) reduction, during the period, compared to that in the same period last year.

Overpopulation, natural disasters among reasons for Indonesia’s change in capital

ANKARA, Aug 26 (NNN-BERNAMA-ANADOLU) — Indonesian President Joko Widodo or Jokowi on Monday cited overpopulation, environmental degradation and economy as reasons for the country’s move to relocate its new capital to the Island of Borneo from Jakarta.

The location of the new capital will straddle two districts — Penajam Paser Utara and Kutai Kartanegara — in East Kalimantan Province.

The construction of the new capital is likely to begin in 2021, and the relocation is expected to begin in 2024.

Kremlin Hopes G7 Will Show “Common Sense” In Restoring Ties With Russia

MOSCOW, Russia, Aug 27 (NNN-TASS) – Moscow expects the Group of Seven (G7) member countries, to be reasonable in the matter of restoring relations with Russia, the Kremlin said.

“So far, it has not been possible to restore relations with some countries, but we hope that common sense will prevail sooner or later,” Kremlin spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, was quoted as saying.

Vietnam rolls out red carpet for Dr Mahathir

HANOI, Aug 27 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Vietnam rolled out the red carpet to welcome visiting Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad for his three-day official visit to the socialist republic Tuesday.

Dr Mahathir was accorded an official welcome at the Presidential Palace where he was greeted on arrival by Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

Dr Mahathir inspected the guard of honour before the national anthems of Malaysia and Vietnam were played.
