Dr Mahathir, Erdogan to discuss on defence, trade issues

ANKARA, July 24 (NNN-Bernama) — International relations, defence, trade and investment are among issues which Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will discuss with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during his visit to Turkey starting Wednesday.

Malaysian Ambassador to Turkey, Datuk Abd Razak Abdul Wahab, said the one-on-one meeting between Dr Mahathir and Erdogan will be followed by a meeting of delegates from both countries, which would take place at the Presidential Palace here on the second day of the Prime Minister’s four-day visit.

Iran Nuclear Deal Remaining Signatories to Meet in Vienna

AUSTRIA, July 24 (NNN-TELESUR) – The international governments that are still signatories to the 2015 Iran nuclear deal will meet on July 28 in Vienna to discuss to what extent the agreement can be saved, according to the European Union’s diplomatic service.

China, France, Germany, Russia, United Kingdom, Iran and EU representatives will “examine issues linked to the implementation of the Joint Commission of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in all its aspects,” the EU statement said on Tuesday.

Egypt starts producing oil from 2 wells in Western Desert

24 July 2019; MEMO: Italian multinational company Eni announced yesterday that it had started oil production from the southwest Meleiha lease in the Western Desert of Egypt.

In a statement, Eni said that production in the new wells started at 5,000 barrels per day and it is expected to reach 7,000 barrels in September.

Sensex falls over 100 pts after IMF cuts India's growth outlook

Mumbai, Jul 24 (PTI) Domestic equity benchmark BSE Sensex dropped over 100 points in early trade on Wednesday as investor sentiment dampened further after IMF cut India's growth outlook.

Massive foreign fund outflow too hit market mood here, traders said.

After swinging nearly 250 point in highly volatile opening session, the 30-share index was trading 104.13 points or 0.27 per cent lower at 37,878.61 at 0930 hours; and the broader Nifty also fell 38.30 points or 0.34 per cent to 11,292.75.

India: 254 startups get Rs 1,700 cr investment from AIF

New Delhi, Jul 24 (PTI) As many as 254 startups have received investment to the tune of over Rs 1,700 crore from the SEBI-registered Alternative Investment Funds (AIF) and the central government has also set up a Fund of Funds for Startups (FFS) with corpus of Rs 10,000 crore, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said on Wednesday.

Goyal said in Lok Sabha that the FFS with corpus of Rs 10,000 crore will meet the funding needs of startups.

Asian stocks rise on report of revived US-China trade talks

BEIJING (AP) — Asian stock markets rose Wednesday following a report U.S. and Chinese trade envoys will meet for talks next week.

Benchmarks in Shanghai, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Sydney all advanced.

Investors were encouraged by a Bloomberg News report that U.S. officials including Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer will visit Beijing for talks. That would be the first face-to-face meeting since Presidents Donald Trump and Xi Jinping agreed in June to resume negotiations aimed at ending a bruising tariff war over U.S. complaints about Chinese technology ambitions.

Stock markets extended their losses for a third straight day with cumulative losses of 3.05 per cent or 1,184.15 points since July 18.

The 30-share index on Monday cracked 305.88 points or 0.80 per cent to settle at 38,031.13, a level not seen since May 17.

IMF urges Pakistan to mobilise domestic tax revenue

Washington, Jul 22 (PTI) The IMF has urged Pakistan to mobilise domestic tax revenues to provide for the social and development spending and place debt on a downward trend.

The statement of International Monetary Fund (IMF) Acting Managing Director David Lipton came after he met Prime Minister Imran Khan who is on a three-day official visit to the US at the invitation of President Donald Trump.
