India: Connaught Place 9th most expensive office location in the world

New Delhi, Jul 10 (PTI) New Delhi's Connaught Place (CP) is the ninth most expensive office location in the world with an annual rent of nearly USD 144 per sq ft, according to property consultant CBRE.

CP, located in the heart of the national capital, was at the ninth position even last year.

In its annual Global Prime Office Occupancy Costs survey, CBRE tracks the cost of leasing prime office space globally.

European powers call for urgent meeting on Iran nuclear issue

PARIS, July 9 (Xinhua) -- France, Germany, Britain and the EU High Representative on Tuesday expressed "deep concerns" over Iran's fresh move to raise the concentration of its enriched uranium beyond agreed limits, calling for an urgent meeting of a joint commission on the issue.

In a joint statement, foreign ministers of the European signatories of the nuclear deal told Iran to return "to full JCPoA compliance without delay," after the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has confirmed it had surpassed the limits set in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action(JCPoA).

Chinese, U.S. chief trade negotiators hold telephone conversation

BEIJING, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Liu He on Tuesday evening held a telephone conversation with U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin as invited, the Ministry of Commerce said Wednesday.

Liu, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chief of the Chinese side of the China-U.S. comprehensive economic dialogue, exchanged views with the U.S. officials on implementing the consensus reached by the two heads of state on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Osaka.

India: Panel recommends 'in-principle' approval for Uranium

Hyderabad, July 9 (PTI) A panel under the Ministry of Forest and Environment has recommended for "in-principle" permission for exploration of Uranium in Amrabad Tiger Reserve in Telangana.

The Forest Advisory Committee (FAC) under the Ministry of Forest, Environment and Climate Change made the recommendation at its meeting on May 22.

India: Rakesh Gangwal flags serious governance issues at IndiGo

New Delhi, Jul 9 (PTI) Locked in a bitter battle with fellow co-founder Rahul Bhatia, IndiGo promoter Rakesh Gangwal has alleged serious governance lapses at the company, saying even a "paan ki dukaan" (betel shop) would have managed matters with more grace.

Gangwal, who along with his affiliates holds around 37 per cent stake in InterGlobe Aviation, said that the company has "started veering off" from the core principles and values of governance that made the company what it is today.

Indian PM Modi vows to take ties with UAE to new heights

New Delhi, Jul 9 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday conveyed to UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed his resolve to step up cooperation with the Gulf country in key sectors such as trade and energy.

The United Arab Emirates minister, who held talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday, called on the prime minister and conveyed that India-UAE relations have never been better.

India: Deposits in Jan Dhan accounts cross Rs 1 lakh crore

New Delhi, Jul 10 (PTI) Deposits in bank accounts opened under Jan Dhan scheme, launched about five years ago by the Modi-government, have crossed the Rs 1 lakh crore mark.

As per the latest finance ministry data, the total balance in over 36.06 crore Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) accounts was at Rs 1,00,495.94 crore as on July 3.

The deposits in the account of the beneficiaries, which has been steadily rising, was Rs 99,649.84 crore on June 6 and Rs 99,232.71 crore in the week before.

Trump accuses India of imposing tariffs on American products; says 'no longer acceptable'

Washington, Jul 9 (PTI) President Donald Trump on Tuesday said India has long had a "field day" imposing tariffs on American products, which is "no longer acceptable" to the US.

Trump's terse comment came days after his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Osaka on June 28 where the two leaders aired their concerns over the bilateral trade disputes and agreed for a meeting of their commerce ministers to sort out the issues.

China demands US cancel arms sale to Taiwan

9 July 2019; AFP: China demanded Tuesday that the United States "immediately cancel" a potential sale of $2.2 billion in arms to self-ruled Taiwan, including battle tanks and anti-aircraft missiles, adding fuel to tensions between the two powers.

It would be the first big-ticket US military sale to the democratically-governed island in decades, and comes as ties between Washington and Beijing are already strained by their trade war.

Indian budget: Tharoor uses cricket analogy to criticise

New Delhi, Jul 8(PTI) The Union Budget has "unnecessarily defensive strokes, dropped catches and quite a few no balls", Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said in Lok Sabha on Monday, slamming the government for allegedly not addressing key issues facing the economy, including farm distress, and raising fuel prices.

Tharoor, who was initiating discussion on the Union Budget for 2019-20 in Lok Sabha, used cricket analogy to target the Centre.
