Sudan, Egypt agree to facilitate granting visas, residencies

17 Feb 2023; MEMO: Sudan and Egypt yesterday agreed to facilitate the granting of entry visas, residencies and work permits between both sides, and affirmed the freedom of ownership for Sudanese nationals in Egypt, the official Sudanese News Agency (SUNA) reported.

This came at the conclusion of the meetings of the fifth session of the Permanent Consular Committee between Sudan and Egypt, which was held in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum.

Turkiye bans exports of mobile homes for three months after quake

15 Feb 2023; MEMO: Turkiye's Trade Ministry banned the export of mobile houses for three months to urgently meet the need for temporary shelter in the earthquake-hit southeast, local media reports.

According to a report, the ministry said the export ban on prefabricated and container homes will start on 15 February.

After the earthquake, 6,500 buildings collapsed and countless more were damaged, hundreds of thousands of people now lack safe housing.

Iran's Raisi set to visit China to shore up ties

13 Feb 2023; MEMO: Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi is set to embark on a three-day visit to China on Tuesday, in what will be the first state visit by an Iranian leader to the country in almost two decades, reports Anadolu Agency.

The high-profile visit, at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, will test the relationship between Tehran and Beijing after a diplomatic row over a joint statement by China and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in December.

Egypt to sell stakes in 7 state-owned hotels to Gulf

14 Feb 2023; MEMO: Egyptian media reported that the government is set to sell 20-30 per cent stakes in seven state-owned hotels to investors, most of whom are potentially coming from the Arab Gulf region, amid a severe economic crisis.

Habi newspaper quoted the Managing Director of the Holding Company for Tourism and Hotels (HOTAC), Adel Wali, as saying that the government is seeking to offer shares through a newly established holding company that will own a portfolio of seven five-star hotels.

EU expects Egypt to deliver high volumes of LNG

14 Feb 2023; MEMO: The European Union expects Egypt to maintain "relatively high volumes" of liquefied natural gas (LNG) deliveries to Europe, EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson said yesterday.

Speaking to Reuters on the sidelines of an energy conference in Egypt, Simson said: "Now we have to solve some of the bottleneck issues."

Türkiye’s national flag carrier resumes flights from quake-hit Hatay Airport

13 Feb 2023; MEMO: Türkiye's national flag carrier Turkish Airlines has resumed flights from Hatay Airport in the country’s earthquake-hit southern region.

"Our flights from Hatay Airport have resumed," Yahya Ustun, Turkish Airlines’ senior vice president for media relations, said on Twitter.

Flights made between Feb. 13-19 will require advance reservation to facilitate the evacuation process, Ustun added.

Passengers without reservations will also be accepted in the case of vacant seats, he noted.

Egypt President Sisi denies dispute with Saudi Arabia, warns against online 'sedition'

12 Feb 2023; MEMO: Egypt's president has denied the existence of any conflict with Saudi Arabia, warning against stirring up "sedition" on social media and news outlets.

Speaking at the inauguration of an industrial project on Thursday, President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi stated that "Egypt's policy has always been characterised by moderation, balance and strict discipline towards everyone at home and abroad."
