SINGAPORE (AP) — Asian stocks were mixed on Thursday as traders kept a close watch on impending U.S. tariffs on Mexico while trade talks with Beijing remained at a standstill.

TOKYO, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks rose Thursday morning following Wall Street's overnight lead, but gains were capped amid concerns over the United States' failure to reach a deal with Mexico on tariffs.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 56.36 points, or 0.27 percent, from Wednesday to 20,832.46.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 0.51 point, or 0.03 percent, at 1,530.59.

TAIPEI, June 5 (Xinhua) -- Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (TSMC) said Wednesday it would continue supplying products for mainland telecommunications company Huawei despite the U.S. government's ban on the latter.

Mark Liu, chairman of TSMC, told reporters that the company's delivery of products to Huawei in the second half of this year is expected to be better than the same period of last year.

The U.S. government last month announced restrictions on the sale and transfer of U.S. technologies to Huawei over what it claimed were technological threats.

ROME, June 5 (Xinhua) -- The European Commission suggested to open a disciplinary action against Italy for not sticking to a promised path of debt reduction, major Italian media reported on Wednesday.

An excessive deficit procedure against Italy was justified, according to the European Union (EU) executive body, because of "Italy's non-compliance with the EU's debt rule in 2018," said Ansa news agency reporting from Brussels.

Besides, the Commission added it would not expect Italy to comply with such rule in 2019-2020 neither.

WASHINGTON, June 5 (Xinhua) -- Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Christine Lagarde warned in a blog post Wednesday of "growing concerns" over the impact of current trade tensions on global growth, urging the removal of existing trade barriers and restraint in erecting new ones.

In an article titled "How to Help, Not Hinder Global Growth," Lagarde highlighted the current global trade tensions, which she said "are looming larger."
