U.S. crafting surrender plan, not peace deal: Palestinian FM

UNITED NATIONS, May 10 (APP): The United States is crafting a surrender document, not a peace plan, and the Palestinians will not accept it regardless of how much money is offered, Palestine’s Foreign Minister Riyad al Maliki has said.

Maliki was addressing an Arria-formula meeting of the UN Security Council at which the United States’ Middle East peace negotiator, Jason Greenblatt, was present ahead of the release of the US plan aimed at ending the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Turkey to launch miniature satellites in 2020

ANKARA; 11 May 2019; AA: Turkey will launch two miniature satellites to space next year, according to a Turkish defense technology company.

STM Defense Technology and Engineering Company aims to develop small satellites, Elif Dirgin, the director of the satellite systems, said at an International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF).

Ergin said the company have already initiated two satellites projects to build a microsatellite named Lagari and a nanosatellite.

Turkey's auto production nearly 490,000 in Jan-April

ANKARA; 11 May 2019; AA: A total of 489,429 vehicles rolled off Turkish automotive industry production lines in the first four months of this year, the Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD) said on Saturday.

The country's auto production -- including automobiles, commercial vehicles, and tractors -- fell 13% year-on-year in January-April period.

The association said automobile production in Turkey also fell 14% to reach at 322,281 during the same period.

Pompeo's Europe trip comes up short both on schedule and in substance

BRUSSELS, May 10 (Xinhua): U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has for the second time this week canceled part of his travel plans in Europe, cutting short a trip that was supposed to shore up U.S. commitment and ties with traditional allies. Instead, he left a trail of disagreements that dogged the transatlantic relations.

Pompeo's first stop was about the Arctic, where the Arctic Council for the first time in 23 years did not issue a declaration that would also act as a guideline for the next chairing country.

Global trade tensions a setback on sustainable development: UN chief

GENEVA, May 10 (Xinhua): Current global tensions are a major setback for sustainable development, the Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres said at the World Trade Organization (WTO) on Friday.

"Significant obstacles have emerged in our efforts to harness the positive force of globalization for sustainable development," said Guterres in a historic address before the WTO's General Council.

180 countries — except US — agree to plastic waste agreement

11 May 2019; DW: After 12 days of negotiations under the auspices of the United Nations, countries have agreed to treat plastic as hazardous waste. Germany is considering a ban that would go even further.

Almost every country in the world, except the United States, agreed to a deal on Friday that would sharply reduce the amount of plastic being washed into the world's oceans.

Indian SC seeks Centre's reply on plea to regulate Netflix

New Delhi, May 10 (PTI) The Supreme Court Friday asked for the Centre's response on a plea seeking guidelines to regulate the functioning of online media streaming platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video which display "uncertified and sexually explicit" content.

A bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Sanjiv Khanna issued notices to the ministries of broadcasting, law and communications on an appeal challenging the February 8 order of the Delhi High Court order which had dismissed it.

Trump raising tariffs on almost all imports from China

Washington, May 11 (PTI) United States President Donald Trump has ordered his top officials to begin the process to raise tariffs on almost all the imports from China, US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer said Friday.

This amounts to about USD300 billion. This is in addition to the Chinese imports worth USD200 billion on which Trump increased the import duty from 10 percent to 25 percent, beginning Friday.
