Boat with 3 on board missing in eastern Indonesia

JAKARTA, July 25 (Xinhua) -- Search and rescue are underway for a boat with three crew members on board that went missing on Tuesday in the country's eastern province of Southeast Sulawesi.

Muhammad Arafah, search and rescue agency chief of the province's capital Kendari, told local media that the boat carrying sand reportedly departed from Port Malaoge in Buton Regency to Port Kapota in Wakatobi Regency.

"In the middle of the trip, the boat was reportedly hit by waves and then sunk," said Arafah.

Russia: State Duma passes bill setting conscription age at 18 to 30

MOSCOW, July 25. /TASS/: The Russian State Duma passed a bill increasing the maximum conscription age to 30 years, while keeping the minimum age at 18.

The bill was introduced by a group of lawmakers, led by Chairman of the Duma Committee on Defense Andrey Kartapolov, in March. The bill stipulates that the minimum conscription age remains at 18 years, while the maximum age is being increased from 27 to 30 starting on January 1, 2024. There will be no gradual increase of the maximum conscription age.

6.0-Magnitude Quake Jolts Off Central Indonesia, No Tsunami Alert Issued

JAKARTA, Jul 25 (NNN-ANTARA) – A 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck off the East Nusa Tenggara province in central Indonesia, this morning, but did not trigger a tsunami, the country’s meteorology, climatology and geophysics agency said.

The agency reported, the quake occurred at 7:25 a.m. Jakarta time (0025 GMT), with its epicentre located at 74 km north-west of North Central Timor Regency and a depth of 75 km under the seabed.

The tremors of the earthquake did not potentially trigger giant waves, according to the agency.

Heat wave returns as Greece grapples with more wildfire evacuations

RHODES, Greece (AP) — A third successive heat wave in Greece pushed temperatures back above 40 C (104 F) across parts of the country Tuesday following more nighttime evacuations from fires that have raged out of control for days.

The latest evacuations orders were issued on the islands of Corfu and Evia, while a blaze on the island of Rhodes continued to move inland, torching mountainous forest areas, including part of a nature reserve.
