Delhi Metro's Dwarka-Najafgarh corridor inaugurated

New Delhi, Oct 4 (PTI) The over 4.2 km-long Grey Line of the Delhi Metro, which will connect urban village area of Najafgarh to the rapid transit network, was inaugurated on Friday.

Union Housing and Urban Affairs minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal flagged off a train on the corridor. Passenger services will commence from the evening.

US-Europe dispute threatens main artery of world trade

BRUSSELS (AP) — The trade wars threatening to push the global economy into recession are entering a new phase, with the United States and European Union escalating a dispute that endangers the world’s biggest trade relationship.

After the Trump administration slapped steep tariffs on $7.5 billion in EU goods, mainly traditional produce like cheese and wine, the Europeans made clear they would retaliate in kind. Some fear the tariffs could ultimately lead to U.S. import duties on European cars, a big economic blow that Trump has been threatening to deliver for months.

Turkey fines Facebook $282,000 over privacy breach

3 Oct 2019; MEMO: Turkish authorities have fined Facebook Inc 1.6 million lira ($282,000) for violation of data protection laws which affected nearly 300,000 people, the Personal Data Protection Board (KVKK) said today.

Facebook has been facing a lawsuit in the United States from users seeking to hold the company liable for allowing third parties, including Cambridge Analytica, to access their data.

Saudi: Oil output fully restored after attacks

3 Oct 2019; MEMO: Saudi Arabia has fully restored oil output after attacks on its facilities last month and is now focusing on the listing of its energy giant Saudi Aramco, Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz Bin Salman said.

The kingdom’s current oil production capacity stands at 11.3 million barrels per day, he told an energy conference in Moscow today.

Growing ‘resentment’ against Saudi crown prince in royal circles

3 Oct 2019; MEMO: A growing number of Saudi royal family members and business elites are expressing frustration over Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman’s leadership, following the disruptive and costly attacks on the kingdom’s Aramco oil facilities last month.

According to Reuters, a senior foreign diplomat and five sources with ties to the royals and business leaders disclosed the claims anonymously.

Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina Arrives Delhi

New Delhi, Oct  3; GANASHAKTI: Prime minister Sheikh Hasina arrives New Delhi on Thursday morning to join the World Economic Forum (WEF) Summit and hold meetings with top Indian leaders, reports UNB.

A VVIP flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the prime minister and her entourage departed from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 8:15am. The flight landed at Palam Air Force Station, New Delhi at 9:45am (local time).

A red carpet was rolled out for the prime minister at the airport.

US widens trade war with tariffs on European planes, cheese, whisky to punish subsidies

WASHINGTON, Oct 3 (NNN-AGENCIES) –The United States said it would slap 10% tariffs on European-made Airbus (AIR.PA) planes and 25% duties on French wine, Scotch and Irish whiskies, and cheese from across the continent as punishment for illegal EU aircraft subsidies.

The announcement came after the World Trade Organization gave Washington a green light to impose tariffs on $7.5 billion worth of EU goods annually in the long-running case, a move that threatens to ignite a tit-for-tat transatlantic trade war.

EU official says PM Johnson's Brexit offer 'can't fly'

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s last-ditch Brexit proposal “can’t fly” because it is an unworkable move backwards that leaves Britain and the European Union far apart, a senior European Union official said on Thursday.

Just 28 days before the United Kingdom is due to leave the EU, both sides are positioning themselves for a delay or else a disorderly no-deal Brexit. Johnson says he wants a deal but insists there can be no delay to Brexit beyond Oct. 31.

Southeast Asia’s Internet economy to hit US$100 billion this year: Report

SINGAPORE, Oct 3 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Southeast Asia’s Internet economy was forecast to grow 39 per cent this year to US$100 billion as millions of people in the region went online to shop for the first time and ride-share firms grew in popularity, an industry report said.

The annual report by Google, Singapore’s state investor Temasek Holdings and global business consultants Bain & Company also lifted its forecast for the region’s growth through 2025 to US$300 billion, from US$240 billion previously.
