US wants to restrict Iran's uranium enrichment

4 May 2019; DW: The US renewed most of its sanction waivers for the Iranian civilian nuclear program on Friday, but allowed two key waivers to lapse.

It will now start imposing sanctions on Iranian exports of enriched uranium that had been allowed under the nuclear deal controversially rejected by the Trump administration.

Iran vows to defeat U.S. through "unity, resistance"

TEHRAN, May 4 (Xinhua): Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Saturday said that Iran will "defeat" the United States through unity of the nation, official IRNA news agency reported.

"We should solidify our unity and strengthen hope in (the Iranian) society," Rouhani was quoted as saying.

The United States aims to "disappoint the Iranians and sow discord between the people and the government by exerting the sanction pressures," he said.

Pakistan removes SBP Governor, FBR Chairman amid talks on IMF bailout package

Islamabad, May 4 :  Prime Minister Imran Khan's government has removed chiefs of the State Bank of Pakistan and the Federal Board of Revenue, a surprise move that comes days after an IMF team visited Islamabad to hold talks for a bailout package to the cash-strapped country.

The development came after Prime Minister Khan on Friday hinted at further changes to his Cabinet in the days to come.

Carbon tax best way to cut greenhouse gas emissions: IMF

Washington, May 4 (AFP) At USD 70 per ton of carbon dioxide, a carbon tax would be the most efficient means of cutting greenhouse gas emissions, according to an International Monetary Fund report published Friday.

But for the moment, carbon taxes remain unpopular, particularly in France, where plans to increase it to 55 euros (or USD 61.60) from 44.60 euros recently ignited the Yellow Vest protest movement.

USA: Fumes in cockpit, cabin prompt return of Spirit jet to LA

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Fumes in the cockpit and cabin of a Spirit Airlines jet flying from Los Angeles to Denver prompted the crew to bring the plane back to Los Angeles International Airport on Friday, authorities said.

Flight 630, an Airbus A321, landed without incident around 9:50 a.m., said Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor.

One passenger was taken to a hospital for evaluation and others were being accommodated on other flights, said Derek Dombrowski, a spokesman for Spirit Airlines.

Ex-Trump aide on board of company that detains migrant kids

MIAMI (AP) — Former White House Chief of Staff John F. Kelly has joined the board of the conglomerate that operates the largest facility for migrant children in the country, the company announced Friday.

Caliburn International’s CEO James Van Dusen confirmed the appointment of the former Trump cabinet member in a news release.

Some members of Congress have described “prison-like” conditions in the facility in Homestead, Florida.

Trump says had "very productive" talk with Putin

WASHINGTON, May 3 (Xinhua): U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that he has had a "very productive" talk with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on a lot of issues.

Trump tweeted that he "had a long and very good conversation with President Putin of Russia. As I have always said, long before the Witch Hunt started, getting along with Russia, China, and everyone is a good thing, not a bad thing."

"We discussed Trade, Venezuela, Ukraine, North Korea, Nuclear Arms Control and even the 'Russian Hoax.' Very productive talk!" Trump added.
