German automakers illegally colluded on emissions technology

5 Apr 2019; DW: German car manufacturing giants Volkswagen, Daimler and BMW illegally colluded to hinder competition on emission cleaning technology, the European Commission said on Friday.

The initial findings from an investigation by the EU's antitrust regulators came nearly two years after authorities carried out raids on their headquarters.

Turkish defense minister says U.S. to deliver 4th F-35 jet

ANKARA, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Turkish Defense Minister said that three of the four F-35 fighter jets had been delivered by the United States and the last one is expected to be transferred on Friday.

Ankara is continuing negotiations with Washington amid a dispute over Turkey's purchase of Russian S-400 missile defense system, Hulusi Akar told state-run Anadolu Agency on Friday.

Hungary to spend close to 3.5 bln USD on ambitious road program

BUDAPEST, April 5 (Xinhua) -- The Hungarian government will spend some 980 billion forints (3.43 billion U.S. dollars) by 2024 on the development of its road network, according to official sources here on Friday.

"By 2024, the State will spend some 980 billion forints in five installments on the development of the Hungarian road network," the official Hungarian Journal announced here on Friday.

Erdogan to visit Russia to discuss S-400, joint projects

MOSCOW, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will pay a working visit to Moscow next Monday to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Kremlin said on Friday.

At the eighth meeting of the Russian-Turkish High-Level Cooperation Council, the two presidents will discuss the implementation of joint energy projects and reconcile approaches on regional and international issues, it said in a statement.

U.S. trade organizations urge Trump not to impose auto tariffs

WASHINGTON, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Eight U.S. trade organizations have urged President Donald Trump not to impose import tariffs on cars and car parts, saying an investigation that could potentially legitimize the duties "poses serious economic threat" to U.S. economy and the wellbeing of its auto industry.

"Any remedy proposing quotas or tariffs should not be implemented," the groups said in a letter dated Thursday, urging that Trump "not impose tariffs on any imported vehicle or motor vehicle parts."

Trump urges Fed to cut interest rates to boost U.S. economy

WASHINGTON, April 5 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that the Federal Reserve (Fed) should lower interest rates and pursue "quantitative easing" policy in order to boost the U.S. economy.

"I personally think the Fed should drop rates. I think they really slowed us down. There's no inflation," Trump told reporters as he departed the White House for California on Friday.

May under fire for seeking another Brexit extension

LONDON, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Prime Minister Theresa May's plea Friday to European Council President Donald Tusk to delay Britain's departure from the EU until June 30 came as talks between the ruling Conservative government and Labour opposition entered their third day.

May's de facto Deputy Prime Minister David Lidington and Labour's shadow Brexit Secretary Keir Starmer, along with their negotiating teams, have yet to find a breakthrough to end a parliamentary impasse over a new deal with the EU.

Engaged with US on import of Iranian oil: India

New Delhi, Apr 4 (PTI) As the US waiver on import of Iranian crude oil expires next month, India Thursday said it was engaged with the Trump administration on the issue.

In November, the US granted a six-month waiver to India, China, Greece, Italy, Taiwan, Japan, Turkey and South Korea to continue importing oil from Iran.

The temporary waiver ends on May 2.

India: Income tax won't be raised to fund Nyay scheme: Rahul

Pune, Apr 5 (PTI) Congress president Rahul Gandhi Friday said the 'Nyay' minimum income scheme for the poor will be implemented without raising income tax or burdening the middle class.

The opposition party has said that if voted to power, it will give Rs 72,000 per year as minimum income to poor families, benefiting around 25 crore people, a move Gandhi has termed a 'surgical strike' on poverty.
