Celebration For Upcoming Chinese Spring Festival Kicks Off In Japan’s Nagoya

NAGOYA, Jan 12 (NNN-NHK) – A three-day celebration for the upcoming Chinese Spring Festival kicked off in the central Japanese city of Nagoya.

The celebration is held on Hisaya Square in downtown Nagoya, where red lanterns and flags were hung high and people cheered in a festival atmosphere.

Some booths were set up around the square, selling traditional Chinese cuisine, including stinky tofu, mutton kebabs, sugar-coated haws and others. Meanwhile, art groups from China and Japan presented a variety of performances on the stage, attracting a large number of visitors.

Japan fails to convince Russia it will deploy US Aegis Ashore missiles only for defense

TOKYO, January 10. /TASS/: Japan has failed to convince Russia that it intends to deploy US Aegis Ashore missile systems on its territory solely for defensive purposes, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said after talks with his Japanese counterpart Takeo Mori on Friday.

Both diplomats held their meeting as part of the 11th round of the Russia-Japan strategic dialogue.

Japan seeks Interpol wanted notice for Carlos Ghosn's wife

TOKYO (Reuters) - Japanese authorities have requested the International Criminal Police Organization (ICPO) for an Interpol wanted notice for the wife of former Nissan Motor (7201.T) boss Carole Ghosn, local media reported on Saturday.

If the notice is issued for his wife, Carole, the couple’s travel chances outside of Lebanon may be restricted, Mainichi newspaper said. Interpol has already issued an arrest warrant for Ghosn.

The request from Japan was made on Thursday, Mainichi and other Japanese media said, quoting unnamed sources.

Japan PM heading to Middle East as planned, warship dispatch ordered

Japan minister launches counterattack after Ghosn blasts justice system

TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan’s justice minister launched a rare and forceful public takedown of auto executive-turned-fugitive Carlos Ghosn after he blasted the country’s legal system as allowing him “zero chance” of a fair trial as he sought to justify his escape to Beirut.

After his dramatic flight to Lebanon last month, Ghosn spoke in public for the first time on Wednesday, saying he had been treated “brutally” by Tokyo prosecutors. He said they questioned him for up to eight hours a day without a lawyer present and tried to extract a confession out of him.

Prosecutors suspected that during an examination of a witness last Apr, at the Tokyo District Court, Carole Ghosn denied knowing one of Ghosn’s acquaintances, whom she had previously contacted.

Man pleads not guilty to murder of 19 at Japan care home

The perjury arrest warrant accuses Carole Ghosn of falsely claiming not to know, or to have met, people connected to a company that received payments from Nissan Motor, part of which it subsequently transferred to a firm owned by Ghosn.

Japan vows to improve border checks, bail after Ghosn flight

TOKYO (AP) — Japan’s justice minister vowed Monday to strengthen border departure checks and review bail conditions after Nissan’s former chairman, Carlos Ghosn, fled the country.

Masako Mori told reporters at a news conference the ministry has already acted to prevent a recurrence but declined to give details.

She was asked about reports that Ghosn had hidden in a box and that baggage checks at a regional airport might have been insufficient.
