Singapore foreign minister to visit Malaysia from May 17 to 19

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), May 16 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysia’s Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah will host his Singaporean counterpart Dr Vivian Balakrishnan in conjunction with the latter’s three-day working visit to Malaysia starting tomorrow.

The Foreign Ministry, in a statement on Monday, said both ministers are scheduled to meet and exchange views on broad-ranging bilateral, regional and international issues of common interest.

Formation of US-Malaysia committee equitable move to resolve palm oil, rubber issues

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), May 15 (NNN-Bernama) —  The establishment of a working committee between Malaysia and the United States to address the issue of alleged forced labour is an equitable move to resolve palm oil and rubber issues, said Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin.

China cites pandemic and withdraws as host of 2023 Asian Cup

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — China withdrew as host of soccer’s 2023 Asian Cup on Saturday in the latest cancellation of the country’s sports hosting duties during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Asian Football Confederation praised Chinese soccer officials for making “this very difficult but necessary decision in the collective interests of the AFC Asian Cup.”

The 24-nation tournament was due to be played in 10 cities in mostly newly built stadiums in June and July of next year.

Ukraine War, Omicron Variant Continue To Weigh On Air Cargo — Iata

KUALA LUMPUR, May 4 (NNN-Bernama) — The Russia-Ukraine war and the Omicron variant of COVID-19 continued to weigh on air cargo, with global demand measured in cargo tonne-kilometres (CTKs), falling 5.2 per cent in March 2022 compared to the same month last year.

Citing its March 2022 data for global air cargo markets, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) said air cargo capacity was 1.2 per cent above that of March 2021.

Special Task Force Formed To Monitor Recovering Process Of Malaysian Cycling Ace

KUALA LUMPUR, May 3 (NNN-Bernama) —  A special task force has been formed to monitor and assist in the recovery process of Malaysian national cycling ace Mohd Azizulhasni Awang, who successfully underwent heart surgery on April 21, said National Sports Institute (NSI) chief executive officer Ahmad Faedzal Md Ramli.

He said the task force, which comprises specialists from NSI and the National Heart Institute (IJN), would be keeping a close watch on the progress of Mohd Azizulhasni throughout his rehabilitation process.

Over 860,000 Children In Malaysia Fully Vaccinated Against Covid-19

KUALA LUMPUR,  May 3 (NNN-Bernama) —  A total of  868,859 children aged five to 11 or 24.5 per cent of the child population in Malaysia have been fully vaccinated under the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme for Children (PICKids) as of Monday. 

Based on the COVIDNOW website, a total of 1,536,766 children, or 43.3 per cent of the group, have received at least one dose of the vaccine.

858,054 children in Malaysia fully vaccinated against COVID-19

KUALA LUMPUR, May 1 (NNN-Bernama) — A total of 858,054 children aged five to 11 years in Malaysia or 24.2 per cent of those in this age group have been fully vaccinated under the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme for Children (PICKids) as of Saturday.

According to the COVIDNOW website, 1,535,126 children or 43.3 per cent of this group have received at least one dose of vaccine.

For teenagers aged between 12 and 17, a total of 2,894,109 individuals or 93 per cent have completed their vaccination, while 2,991,866 or 96.1 per cent have received at least one jab.

Malaysia Reports 2,579 New COVID-19 Infections, Six New Deaths

KUALA LUMPUR, Apr 30 (NNN-BERNAMA) – Malaysia reported 2,579 new COVID-19 infections as of midnight, bringing the national total to 4,445,897, according to the health ministry.

There are six new imported cases and 2,573 local transmissions, data released on the ministry’s website showed.

A further six deaths have been reported, bringing the death toll to 35,542.

The ministry reported 6,055 new recoveries, bringing the total number of cured and discharged to 4,360,061.

Malaysia Urges The UNSC Veto Exercise To Be Regulated, Continue Working Towards Council’s Reform

KUALA LUMPUR, April 29 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysia urges the exercise of the veto power by permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to be regulated and will continue to work towards a comprehensive reform of the Council.

Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah said Malaysia supported and joined the consensus on the latest resolution A/RES/76/262, adopted on Tuesday (April 26), in line with its position to strengthen the relationship and coordination between the General Assembly and the Security Council on peace and security.

Malaysia scraps mandatory mask-wearing in outdoor settings, open areas from May 1

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), April 27 (NNN-Bernama) — Effective May 1, the wearing of face masks in outdoor settings and open areas will no longer be compulsory in Malaysia, but optional, said Minister of Health Khairy Jamaluddin.

However, it will remain compulsory in indoor settings and in public transport, including e-hailing vehicles, he said when announcing the relaxation of the preventive and control measures of  COVID-19 in line with the transition to the endemic phase in Malaysia, here Wednesday.
