Malaysia lawmakers protest Parliament closure as ploy by PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Police blocked opposition lawmakers from marching Monday to protest a two-week lockdown of Malaysia’s Parliament, which they consider another ploy for the embattled prime minister to dodge a no-confidence vote.

With a crucial parliamentary session due, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin instead postponed it and Parliament will be shut for two weeks. The health ministry said Parliament was deemed a high-risk venue because four of 11 COVID-19 cases detected among staff and others were suspected to be the fast-spreading delta variant.

Malaysian Senior Minister To Lead Delegation To Asean Foreign Ministers’ Meeting From Monday

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), Aug 1 (NNN-Bernama) — Senior Minister of Foreign Affairs (Security Cluster) Hishammuddin Hussein is scheduled to lead the Malaysian delegation to the 54th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (54th AMM) and related meetings, from tomorrow (Aug 2) until Aug 7. 

The Malaysian Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra) said in a statement that all the meetings via video conference will be hosted by Brunei Darussalam, in its role as ASEAN Chair for 2021. 

Malaysian Opposition Leader Anwar Submits Motion Of No-Confidence On PM Muhyiddin

KUALA LUMPUR, July 29 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysian Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim has proposed a motion stating that the Dewan Rakyat (lower house of Parliament) has lost confidence in Muhyiddin Yassin and that he should resign as the Prime Minister immediately.

Anwar, who is Port Dickson member of parliament, said the motion was submitted to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Azhar Azizan Harun under Regulations 14(1)(h), 26(1)(d) dan 36(12) of the Standing Orders and the Federal Constitution.

Malaysian premier faces calls to resign after palace rebuke

KUALA LUMPUR, July 29 (Reuters) - Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin faced calls to resign on Thursday from the opposition and the biggest bloc in the ruling coalition, after a rare rebuke by the king over the government's handling of emergency ordinances.

Muhyiddin's government said earlier this week that on July 21 it had revoked all ordinances that had come into effect since a national state of emergency was imposed in January.

Malaysia Among Fastest Countries To Vaccinate Its People – PM Muhyiddin

KUALA LUMPUR, July 26 (NNN-Bernama) — Muhyiddin Yassin said Malaysia is one of the fastest countries to vaccinate its people against COVID-19 with vaccine injection capacity having reached more than 500,000 doses a day at present.

KUALA LUMPUR, July 23 (NNN-Bernama) — Sinovac Biotech Ltd, the developer of CoronaVac COVID-19 vaccine, has defended the efficacy of its two-dose vaccine including against the Delta variant.

Company spokesperson Liu Peicheng said although no data is available on its protective effect yet, studies have proven the vaccine’s efficacy in countries such as Brazil, Indonesia, Chile and Turkey where the vaccine has been widely used.

Soccer-Bidding process for 2027 Asian Cup delayed due to COVID-19

21 July 2021; MEMO: The bidding process for the hosting rights for the 2027 Asian Cup has been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and will be held in 2022 instead of this year, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) said on Wednesday, Reuters reported.

The selection of the host nation was initially due to be done at the AFC Congress on Nov. 27, 2021.

Sharp Drop In Serious Covid-19 Cases In Malaysia Following Vaccination – Malaysian PM

KUALA LUMPUR, July 17 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said data showed that vaccination has succeeded in sharply reducing the number of serious COVID-19 cases in the country.

He said this was evident from the figures for admission of senior citizens in categories four and five cases to Hospital Sungai Buloh, which had dropped by more than 50 per cent in the past one month.

“Now the positive impact of vaccination is beginning to be seen,” he said in a Facebook post Saturday.
