Malaysian PM denies claims that judiciary system used for political revenge

KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysian Prime Minister Menteri Anwar Ibrahim denied claims that he was using the country’s judiciary system to seek political revenge against certain individuals.

Anwar said instead he always respected the judiciary system in the country, including not interfering in decisions made by the Attorney-General or judges on any said case.

“If revenge was on my mind or my intention, many would have been sent to the Sungai Buloh prison (in the state of Selangor) already, but I know the need to defend the principles of adhering to the law.

Malaysia’s Manufacturing PMI Down To 47.8 In May

Malaysia detains Chinese barge on suspicion of looting WWII British warship wrecks

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Malaysia’s maritime agency said Monday it found a cannon shell believed to be from World War II on a Chinese-registered vessel and was investigating if the barge carrier was involved in the looting of two British warship wrecks in the South China Sea.

Malaysian media reported that illegal salvage operators were believed to have targeted the HMS Repulse and the HMS Prince of Wales, which were sunk in 1941 by Japanese torpedoes, days after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 7 (Xinhua) -- The continued partnership and close collaboration between Malaysian national carmaker Proton and China's Geely are of strategic importance, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said on Sunday.

The collaboration accelerates the adoption of electric vehicles (EV) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) as well as the supporting ecosystem for these new vehicles, and by extension creates thousands of skilled jobs and investment into the country, Anwar said at the official launch of Proton's newest model, the Proton X90 sports utility vehicle (SUV).

Malaysia to provide clarity to tech giants on cabotage policy

KUALA LUMPUR, May 5 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysia’s Minister of Transport Anthony Loke Siew Fook is scheduled to meet with representatives from multinational technology companies such as Facebook and Google to clarify the country’s stance on cabotage policy restrictions for submarine cable repair as well as reassure foreign investors about Malaysia’s future policies.

Two Taiwanese wanted in shooting case back home held in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, April 29 (Bernama) — Two Taiwan nationals who were wanted in a shooting case in their country were detained at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). 

Both suspects were believed to be members of a secret society as well as members of a scam syndicate in Taiwan.          

Malaysia’s Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said both men were nabbed as soon as they arrived at KLIA on April 20 from Taiwan. 

Positive Sentiment Towards Malaysian Unity Govt – Minister

KUALA LUMPUR, April 22 (NNN-Bernama) — The people’s ‘mood’ and support towards the Malaysian Unity Government led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim have been very positive, said the country’s Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

 He said the findings of several studies conducted recently also found that there has been a positive sentiment towards the government.

However, he said this was not the time for the government to be complacent and get carried away.

Asean ‘Strongly Condemns’ Deadly Air Strike In Myanmar

KUALA LUMPUR, April 13 (NNN-Bernama) — ASEAN “strongly condemns” a military air strike Tuesday on a village in Myanmar, which is reported to have killed up to 100 people including civilians.

Indonesia, the chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) in a statement said all forms of violence must end immediately, particularly the use of force against civilians.
