SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korea fired an intercontinental ballistic missile into the sea Monday in a resumption of its high-profile weapons testing activities, its neighbors said, as the North vows strong responses against U.S. and South Korean moves to boost their nuclear deterrence plans.

SEOUL, Dec 15 (NNN-YONHAP) – South Korea’s overseas direct investment fell for the fourth straight quarter, on lingering uncertainty over global economy, government data showed, today.

Overseas investment through the purchase of foreign stocks and the establishment of foreign offices, stood at 14.62 billion U.S. dollars in the Jul-Sept quarter, down 20.4 percent, from the same quarter of last year, according to the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

SEOUL, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- A U.S. F-16 fighter jet crashed in western South Korea, with no casualty being reported, Yonhap news agency and local broadcaster YTN reported Monday.

The fighter jet of the U.S. Forces Korea (USFK) crashed in the morning near the Kunsan Air Base in Gunsan, around 180 km south of the capital Seoul, during a training exercise.

No casualty had been reported yet as the pilot made an emergency escape. 

SEOUL, Dec 9 (Reuters) - The United States, South Korea and Japan agreed new initiatives on Saturday to respond to North Korea's threats in cyberspace, including cryptocurrency abuses and space launches, White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said.

The three countries' national security advisers met in Seoul as Pyongyang warned that it would deploy more spy satellites.

SEOUL, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- South Korea on Monday conducted the third test flight of its solid-fuel space rocket, the Ministry of National Defense said.

The launch was carried out in waters near the country's southern resort island of Jeju earlier in the day, and a commercial satellite was put into orbit.

It was the third of its kind to test-launch the homegrown solid-fuel space rocket.

During the second test flight in December 2022, the launch vehicle was mounted with a dummy satellite.

SEOUL, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- The Ministry of National Defense of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) warned in a statement Saturday that "any attack against the country's space assets will be deemed as declaration of war," the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported.

SEOUL, Nov 28 (Reuters) - After decades of satellite surveillance by foreign governments and analysts, North Korea has sent its first spy satellite on a global orbit with a message to the world: we can watch you too.

On Tuesday North Korean state media said leader Kim Jong Un had reviewed spy satellite photos of the White House, Pentagon and U.S. aircraft carriers at the naval base of Norfolk.

North Korea last week successfully launched its first reconnaissance satellite, which it has said was designed to monitor U.S. and South Korean military movements.

SEOUL, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- The aerospace agency of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) is trying to accelerate the fine-tuning of the reconnaissance satellite it placed into orbit last week, the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported Monday.

The fine-tuning of the reconnaissance satellite Malligyong-1 "is being hastened to end one or two days earlier," KCNA said, citing the Pyongyang General Control Center of the National Aerospace Technology Administration (NATA).

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — The top diplomats from South Korea, Japan and China met Sunday to discuss when to resume their leaders’ trilateral summit after a four-year hiatus and how to strengthen cooperation among the three Northeast Asian neighbors.
